This is what you have to do for open wheeled cars:
(also note the extra exhaust box which has made it louder! )

No......just turned up

Richard Quinn - 23/4/09 at 02:32 PM

With all those safety guards fitted does it also have an emergency stop button or a dead man's handle to operate it?

smart51 - 23/4/09 at 02:32 PM

Hmm. Is that because of radiuses or to stop people getting to those moving parts?

I take it from your style of construction that the grilles aren't to be permanent? I bet they could be made out of smaller stuff and be made to look quite nice if they were going to stay.

Why the two silencers?

jlparsons - 23/4/09 at 02:33 PM

Reminds me of the bus they zombie-proof in "day of the dead".

BRAINS!!!!

cloudy - 23/4/09 at 02:34 PM

Wow, that's pretty bad! Have you got a retest booked?

James

Mr Whippy - 23/4/09 at 02:35 PM

How many shopping trolleys has that used then?

hee hee oh the sympathy

A farcical test ain't it...never mind so long as it passes that's all that matters

chrsgrain - 23/4/09 at 02:35 PM

The red 'G' clamp is my favourite bit....

Chris

tegwin - 23/4/09 at 02:36 PM

Thats just silly!!! Anyone who gets that close to any of the moving parts deserves to get hurt lol

exactly! if they get that close to the back of the rear suspension to get hurt, they've already got more other more serious problems...

nitram38 - 23/4/09 at 02:40 PM

I just rang them for a retest and they were saying June
I said all I needed was a noise test and to recheck the projections.
I told them I made a mistake on my forms and I believe max power is 10500 and max rpm is 11800 and I had gotten the two mixed up.. I 'm not sure how that is going down as I need to get a call back from the tester.
Things are going bad........
The sound was 106dbA with only the big box and the same with the Quill added....go figure.
The quill on it's own......103dbA.
Pull my hair out time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just in case, where can I find evidence of the R1 power (even if it is doctered! )

You are welcome to borrow one of my SVA ones, would need to check the diameter first... Very heavy though so not sure about posting them...

James

PS. I found that 70% of the noise at the back is from engine block at those RPM's, confirmed by the fact that the noise was just as high measured from the side and away from the exhausts...

If you can, use solid covers - I had to add noise deadening self adhesive sheet in addition to this...

James

nitram38 - 23/4/09 at 02:45 PM

I think my problem is going to be the 8800 rpm level it was tested at
At 7500 it will pass.
I will try tying some fire blankets to the underside of the rear mesh

Worth checking - it seems very high!

After the test, most of this stuff will probably fall off

iiyama - 23/4/09 at 04:06 PM

I can sympathise with the noise thang. At test it was 103db. At re-test with a db killer and some sound mat placed around the car it was 109db. Go figure. I think as has been said at the rpms were at, (although mine was 7k rpm, ( I too lied about max power rpm's )), a lot of the noise is from the engine itself and induction noise as well. Need to wrap the engine up I think but not sure what to do it with!

A1 - 23/4/09 at 04:19 PM

have they changed the noise regs in iva?

i take it youve used that glue that always seems let thing drop off on the way home?

Thank God for that!
I though you had gone all green and decided to keep chickens.

Love the tail light bodies.

nitram38 - 23/4/09 at 08:54 PM

They are stainless steel cups off ebay.
A real barsteward to cut though !

nitram38 - 24/4/09 at 10:27 AM

Here are my solutions to my failure points.

Rear projections on the brake calipers and suspension plus exhaust too loud (extra box plus fire blanket)

Description

Moved the bodyline out (grill) making the engine and suspension projections exempt from the test

Description
Description

Projections in passenger footwell incuding power commander lcd unit.
Mesh plus removed PC lcd. Also removed fire extinguisher from firewall (not shown) as fail on projections (even though behind seats!

Description
Description

Edge on top of shock only 2mm radius not 2.5mm! Made rubber O ring and super-glued on.

Description

Edge trim on air intake for radiator (even though it faces inwards (a ped would have to hit the edge from inside the nose cone!)

The good news is that the tester will accept a lower rev limit for the noise test if I have documentary evidence which I have got from two seperate sources.
On my rubbish sound meter it passes at the lower limit, also I have put the fireblanket on the grill to try and deflect some of the engine noise.
I rang mitcham and the girl seemed very chatty and basically gave me a date late in May but I said I only live nearby and can turn up at a moments notice (depending on my shifts)
Hopefully I will get a cancellation very soon!
