sealing a thermocouple into a coolant hose
I have a coolant leak which is coming from where my top hose joins the radiator. The leak seems to be coming from where I have run the thermocouple
for my variable temperature fan switch (the blue edged dial) as in the following picture. I've tried to tighten the hose clamp as far as I
dare in the hope that the hose would deform enough around the thermocouple wire, but to no avail.
Is there any reason why I could not use gasket sealant or that blue silicone gasket maker stuff? I could smear some around the thermocouple and the
radiator hose connector before sliding the silicone hose on and clamping it down.
I suppose that for an even cheaper fix I could use some spare silicone bath sealant that I have lying around?

Yes or alternatively cut a couple of sections of bike inner tube and stretch them over the stub pipe, then fit pipe and sensor and hose as normal.

I cant quite see what you are doing there but the cappilary tube with sensor looks very much like the Kenlowe I have on my Landy. There is a short
length of rubber, shaped like a speed bump with a slot for the cappillary tube that fits in between the hose and radiator pipe, so when the hose is
clamped, the cappillary tube is sealed.
Give me a moment and I'll see if I can find what I am trying to describe.....

One of those speed bump things came with the switch and thermocouple, but it leaks far more when I use it than when I don't. Maybe its just not
a very good one, but is doesn't seal well either where the thermocouple wire is in the channel or where it tapers to meet the stub pipe.
