Velocity Engine Choice

Hi everyone

Ordered my Velocity XT kit at the Stafford show and looking forward to the build.

Any views on the relative merits / costs of installing a Zetec vs Toyota 4AGE in a Velocity XT?

Thanks

Andy

Both good engines. £££ zetec slightly cheaper as cost of donor engines dropping as loads in scrapyards, therefore parts etc easier to get and suspect slightly higher bhp for same money. 4AGE nice compact unit but general and tuning parts more limited in this country. Both have good and bad points. I like the fact that if I blow mine up (and I do try to very hard!) I can get one delivered the next day for under £300, slap it in and 175bhp from bog standard block/head 2ltr.

Zetec can be turbocharged using Fiesta/Escort RS turbo parts. Just needs a compression reducer plate and a mod to the crossover pipe to make it clear the rocker cover.

costs of gearbox choice/mating adapters should also be considered. Might be cheaper going the Zetec/Type 9 route.

Zetec - what induction/ignition/fueling are you using to get 175bhp from a stock 2.0l zetec?

Anyone fitted a Duratec yet, and how much lighter are they?

Looks nice!

Hi Billy

Very tidy!

What other bits and pieces did you need to fit apart from the carbs?

Thanks

I've got Jenvey 45mm throttle bodies and Emerald ECU, Raceline inlet manifold and nice free flowing exhaust. Got it set up on a rolling road and hasn't missed a beat. Pic on archive.

Not yet- give it a year or two!

Not sure how much lighter but must be a fair bit- it's got an alloy block!

HIGH PERFORMANCE AND COMPETITION ENGINES
USING THE DURATEC I4
(FORD OR MAZDA DERIVATIVES)
2.3 Litre AND 2.0 Litre ENGINES

Download Duratec brochure in PDF format 253KB
requires Adobe Acrobat Reader

Minister-Power have built high performance FORD based engines for thirty years,
therefore high performance versions of FORD's global DURATEC engine was a natural evolution.

Having evaluated the 2.0 Litre version in Summer 2001, Minister-Power discovered the engine had a 2.3 derivative; minimal external differences gave an ideal basis for a range of engines using common ancillaries. The 2.0 Litre and 2.3 Litre versions are from the same global engine family that incorporates the latest technology from FORD/MAZDA e.g. the block casting uses similar methods of manufacture as some F1 engines.

Following extensive Dynamometer testing, an engine was fitted into a road going Caterham 7, it passed the SVA test and has proven totally reliable. A Minister-Power Hi-Torque Duratec made its competition debut in France, winning several class races, and competing over 50 hours track work, in a LHD Caterham.

This was followed by a winning debut win for the Minister-Power Super-Torque engine in a six-hour race at Magny-Cours, winning by three laps. Race and class wins at Brands Hatch were also achieved.
Minister have successfully created a fitting kit
for the Duratec engine for Lotus 7 style vehicles
