quick question - how much space do I need lo leave from the base of the rear panel to fit the nuber plate light - in other words how far from the bottom of the panel to the light.

standard (legal) number plate is 111mm, so a bit more than that

I don't think there is a minium or maximum height - and I'm sure you could mount is so it shines upwards - pretty sure cars had that in the past but maybe SVA say no?

Before you start drilling the holes, have a look what is on the other side of the panel e.g. petrol tank to see that there is enough room/access for the bolts and so you don't drill into the tank

You may also want to decide if you are going to fit a number plate surround as well first. That could be fitted first followed by the light. The plate will fit no probs then.
