4 AGE in a Velocity
blockhead_rich - 22/4/05 at 06:36 PM

So has any one fitted a 4 AGE into a Velocity and used the std VTIS intake manifold? If so did the bonnet fit without mods or did you have to cut a lot away to clear it?

Also, what angle should the rocker covers be in? Mine are on the piss, although the sump looks fairly level?

Answers please ASAP!

Luego have a Toyota engine in their purple Velocity. I am sure thats what it was at the last open day. Give Grant a ring.

Unfortunatley, Their demonstrator has the Silver Top engine and not the one from the Mk 1 Mr2 which has the TVIS inlet manifold. I will indeed give Grant a ring but just thought that someone might know before hand.

Yes the engine will be at an angle depending on which engine mounts you used, the RAW ones will keep the original engines angle. You can see that the engine was designed to be at an angle because of the sumps bottom. I couldnt tell you what angle but its alright guess about 5-10 deg.

With the standered intake, well you wont be able to use it without chopping the bonnet or chopping the intake length.some people go for carbs but then you need to sort some way of managing the ignitions and some go for ITBs which means a new engine management computer.

Just a few of questions to add on this topic. I apologise if they are a bit noddy.

Are the later 'non-TVIS' engines preferable to use?

I know Raw do a kit to put a 4age into a seven type car, but do you need to a new ignition system (i think the kit has the omex 600) or can you use the original?

Just one more thing, if you get a complete engine and Raw's kit is there anything else needed?

Cheers

I've got the RAW 4-AGE engine. Also bought the twin webers and OMEX 100 ECU kit and bell housing convesion - all from RAW - just in the process of trying to get it started! Decided to dump the injection and go with a tried and trusted combination from RAW - not cheap but you do get the support when it goes a bit wrong!!

Although - must say its all gone into my Velocity dead easy and assuming I can get it started - its been a piece of cake!

Engine is cantered over to one side too.... all I need now is a manifold!!!!!

Just wondered what cooling systems people have also fitted. I'm planning to use a Mercedes 190 rad but that's as far as I've got right now. Id especially like details of the plumbing and thermomstats, etc.

So any pic's of other people installations would be very welcome.

P.S. Does anyone know of an Auto Electrician locally to Colchester or someone who has more of an electrical brain than me who could help out with my wiring???

Have a look in my archive, photos of the small (1.0) polo rad on a Velocity.

You have to grind off the brackets and make new ones which are riveted on.

Hi BMF

Car looks great. Any chance that you could send me a couple more pics of the way you have mounted the rad, etc? Does it give sufficient cooling for your engine?

Which reg of Polo is the rad from? How much did it cost you and did you use the opolo fan?

Thanks in advance
Rich

Rich

I will have to get some when I am next with car in couple of weeks.

I mounted it so the inlet and outlet tubes are at the top (ie turned on its end). Just made some brackets from flat Ali to mount it as low as possible so it would clear the nosecone. It does but only just, with the overflor tube bending against inside of nose.

Although the brackets seem flimsy when fitting, once rad is fitted and pipework, it is rock solid.

Go here for rad;

https://secure.gsfcarparts.com/shop/

Part no. is 17321B which is for a 380mm wide rad from a 1.0 Polo, £43 ex VAT.

This has been fine so far, should be alot better than the old escort MK2 rad Luego recommend, as it is Ali.

I used a Spal 11" blower fan for £50.

Cheers Ben
