Rv8 Engine mounts
Irony - 4/9/10 at 05:58 PM

I am looking to get some engine mounts for my Viento RV8. Alas I had a email quote from Luego for a £100 quid but now they haven't replied to my recent email trying to order some. I would phone but the guy there told me it is better to email!

Does anyone have any engine mounts? Bit hopeful perhaps. Or some dimension drawings of some suitable mounts for me to have them made. Also gearbox mounts.

Cheers but the rubbery bits are not a problem. Its the metal brackets.

I made my gearbox mounts out of the cross member that is used to fit the gearbox into the sd1. I noticed you already have one of these attached to the gear box in a past picture

The Luego engine mounts are a simple design but effective.

not very good at drawings but could mesure mine up next week.

Did you have to do any welding on the gearbox mounts? I have two sets of gearbox Land Rover mounts so if theres no welding I could easy do it.

Regarding the Engine mounts I spoke to a Luego Owner at Newark who said he made his. But I can't remember the fellows name. He has a Black Viento V8 with Chequer Plate in the footwells and dual headlights. I was hoping he may have made some drawings.

Sounds like Perci's Vinto. They made a lot of their own fittings.

Gearbox mounts simply involved an angle grinder and cutting the sd1 mounts down. will post a full explanation and pic later if you want but its now Beer time.

Cheers mate that would be awesome. Beer time!!! Have one for me, I am still at work and I have been at work since 6.30am! Boo!

Probably not much use if you don't weld but if you look on the 'chassis' page on my website about 3/4 the way down the page there's several pictures of how I did mine if it helps any.

Link to Chassis Page

Cheers,

Mart.

Pictures are in My Archive....

Gearbox:

I made a different design. The bracket on the engine, is a std rover part. I just made the sloping bracket bit:
Engine (Mine):
RV8 Engine mounting 3
RV8 Engine mounting 3

Luego factory ones (Very simple to make, just use thick steel of 5mm min to stop them sagging like my original ones that I made from 4mm steel):
N/Side Engine Mounting
N/Side Engine Mounting

O/Side Engine Mount / Column
O/Side Engine Mount / Column

Has anyone got a set of these blue Luego Factory ones they could take some measurements for me?

Paul (Notts) - 7/9/10 at 03:12 PM

Yes...I can.

Will try this Sunday to get the dimensions + find some pics of my gearbox mounts.

send me a U2u on Sat to remind me or I may well forget.

If you are making the Luego Design,
Make sure you use thick enough metal.
The ones I made sagged (metal bent with the torque etc).
I recon 5mm at least. (I think I used 4mm)
This is why I changed to a different design on my Viento. I already had the original Rover brackets and only needed to make sloping supports.

Luego Design is fine.. just make them strong enough.

Personally I think there is less stress on the mounts that I made, as the Luego design is trying to lever off the bolt heads in the block.
Just my opinion.

Here's mine for an vauxhall XE-

Pic 1: target zone! - sorry - locostbuilders failing to upload this piccy?
Pic 2: components.
Pic 3: then I tack - welded them myself ('cos my welding was cr*p)
Pic 4: completed and painted.

Obviously, yours will be different, but the principle's the same.....

Hmmm Thats a nice bracket, and I recon better than the Luego one, as it uses three bolts, and lessens the strain on the two that are in the block.

Good one... Typical of LCB.. There are always better ideas around the corner.

Chock the engine to the height you want, and just measure up. Thats what I did.

DO take into consideration Where your Exhausts are going to exit the side walls of the car.

EDIT: Damn Just realised ofs for an XE, not a RV8.
Still.... same principles apply. and make then strong.

Steve,

I noticed in your pictures above that you have a bearing where the steering column goes through the foot well rather than the usual grommets. Do you have a link to where you got it from?
