.... plus the missus knows about it now so i can tell everyone!!

mookaloid - 1/8/09 at 10:16 PM

wow what is it?

clairetoo - 1/8/09 at 10:30 PM

WTF (is it...............)

MakeEverything - 1/8/09 at 10:43 PM

Its an AGT Sports.

Its a prototype car that has outlived its prototype usefulness, so a very expensive car to have made.
Apparently, the builder wanted to market this and sell the kit, but i understand that this may now appear in europe / Russia first?? The design will have changed slightly by then anyway.

Its a Mid Engined (2.1L Renault) RWD pocket rocket, with some real nice design touches to the bodywork and the inside.

Really pleased with it, and looking forward to getting working on it. It needs paint, a few items tidying up etc, but the interior is mint and the car has only done 160 miles since registered!!

Anyway, happy days. Ill let you have some more photos when i take them, but ive struggled to upload so far.

Im hoping to have this ready for the SG7 meet NEXT month.

McLannahan - 1/8/09 at 11:00 PM

Richard - Where did you find it and how much did it cost?

sgraber - 2/8/09 at 01:56 AM

I would say its a Mullen M11. I saw this car in California back in 2005, it was sold as a kit. The company is still in business and you can read more about them here: http://www.mullenmotorco.com/index.html

kb58 - 2/8/09 at 02:32 AM

It's funny that on their website FAQ - you know "frequently asked questions" - no one has asked what it costs? I'd expect that to be the number one question, not what color it comes in or what the 0-60 times are, lol.

Remember this one, seen a yellow one at a show. I think i have a kit car mag with the feature on this one, if i can find it.
Very nice car

Thanks for that. The log book says its called an AGT Sports, so i dont know if this is a derivative of the Mullen.

It is very cool though.

MakeEverything - 2/8/09 at 08:44 AM

Seems like i was told a load of nutsack bey the previous owner then!!
Good job i didnt buy it for that then!! I bought it because i liked it - a lot - and it was the right price.

ashg - 2/8/09 at 09:43 AM

on the plus side you now know where you can get body parts etc for it.

gottabedone - 2/8/09 at 09:57 AM

Nutsack or not, if the price was right for you then thats all that matters.
It looks really good from some angles buy has some interesting styling in some places (rear lights) - but that's the nature of kit cars - we drive cars that aren't your normal run of the mill stuff.

Looks good in darker colours though.

have fun

Steve

MakeEverything - 2/8/09 at 12:12 PM

Yeah, it does look good in black, and the lights are corsa B.
I think ill paint it black, but ive already gor silver so i need to weigh it up really.

Anyone got any ideas where i can get software to change the colour to see what it will look like?

scudderfish - 2/8/09 at 01:21 PM

I reckon you should use that slightly metallic claret colour, used by Peugeot. Looks fantastic, and will deffo enhance your whateveritis-GT thingy. Waht about the wheels?

davida - 2/8/09 at 06:27 PM

I missed the SG7 meeting today due to family stuff :-( but I've just redlined next months meeting date - that car looks pretty hot!

Dave

I need to get some nice alloys for it. I like black alloy, but not sure if that will go with the paint. Ill need to do that bit last (especially as im now short on cash!)

MakeEverything - 3/8/09 at 08:30 PM

It arrives next weekend!

Cant wait. Ive been clearing the way in the garage, to make sure it'll fit!! - but even now, im not sure it will!! A wider door might be in order!

Im hoping they tightened everything up before they transport it!! Otherwise i could end up with missing bits!

MakeEverything - 15/8/09 at 08:27 AM

Well its here...

Very Very pleased with it.

Ive spent every night over the last week or so diagnosing why the engine wont start, and finally got it running sweet lst night.

I replaced the Fuel Pump, hoses, HT Leads, and it still wasnt running properly, until i found that it had water in the fuel. So, after draining 25 pints or so from the tank until it was clear, i reconnected the hose to the fuel rail, and hey presto! Reversed it up the drive and drove it forward. Feels very lively, but the MOT will tell.

I spoke to "Art" at Mullen Motor Co last week on the phone in america, and had a very interesting conversation. He said that the AGT was a rip off from the mullen M11, but it does seem that i may have the original prototype for the ripoff! Ill need to get in touch with the original builder. Ive got his details.

So next jobs on the list are:

Repair front clamshell mount
New Wheels and tyres
Tidy Up and clean in and out
Clean up suspension (Surface rust on threads)
Rub down and prime
Take to MOT station the long way round, to get the surface rust off of the brakes!

I will update with some more once i have any more to tell, and will upload some pictures.

All in all, good progress this week. Thanks to my next door neighbour for the help!.

MakeEverything - 15/8/09 at 08:37 AM

Oh, and service the engine!

MakeEverything - 15/8/09 at 05:45 PM

More Photos.
Changed the exhaust mounts today, emptied the rest of the fuel from the tank (same problem with new fuel though), Cleaned interior, jetwashed loose paint off, replaced steering column cowling.

Got your work cut out to get it ready for SG7 on the 2nd then

MakeEverything - 15/8/09 at 06:26 PM

It might have an MOT, but it might not be painted!!
Will have to wait and see!

When was the next date?

MakeEverything - 16/8/09 at 03:10 PM

Still, could be worse. It could be more than just condensation!

[Edited on 16/8/09 by MakeEverything]

MakeEverything - 19/8/09 at 01:12 PM

So s spend all morning servicing the engine, and getting oil everywhere, when i finally get it finished for the 13:00 MOT appointment.

So, with some new fuel, i turned the key. Fuel pump whirrs into life, then turn again and..... nothing.

After a bit of poking around, i find a connector had come off of the starter. So, i put it back oand success, it doesnt sound any quieter, but i have the sound knowledge that the new oil is now lubricating the engine, not filing it down from the inside.

So i go indoors, do a bit more work, and then at 12:30 i jump in the car for the MOT. I pull out of the road, and there must be some more water in the fuel, so i rev it out of the system, and pull away.

I get 3/4 mile down the road and Clonk, "ooh, what was that? - Oh, i need to put some more fuel in so ill go back and put it in before i go any further".

So i turn around at the next roundabout, and the engine cuts out, and clonk, clonk, clonk and no drive. Gears, - seem to be, engine, running again, what????

Turns out its either the drive shaft has come out of the rear hub, or its broken!

Luck has it, that my next door neighbour drives past, takes my keys and gets my car to tow me back! Result.

So, back to the drawing board, and solve the next problem.....

kb58 - 20/8/09 at 02:47 PM

Don't take this the wrong way, but it seems like you're rushing things. Take your time to make sure it's really sorted before heading out on the road. It's a new car (to you) so there's all sorts of things that need to be checked out first.

MakeEverything - 21/8/09 at 02:15 PM

Ive spent ages checking everything, and im not rushing.

With the best will in the world, you wouldnt know that the CV joint was going to fail.

I have some deadlines that i want to meet, so thats the reason for spending so much time on it. Probably the same amount of time as i would if it was spread over a longer period.

MakeEverything - 5/10/09 at 09:09 PM

Its been a while since the last post, so ill update.....

As some of you have seen, the car is MOT'd and going well (Albeit with a coolant leak).

So i plan to fix the coolant leak following a debate at the last SG7 meeting, and get the engine reliable so that i have the option of driving it to work (London Euston) at least!

Ive bought a 1.8 (130ps) Zetec which i get next weekend (Thanks to Andy B) so ill experiment with that over the winter, and mate it to another UN1 that i hope to get in the next couple of weeks.

I'll be playing with the exhaust as well at some point, to see if i can make it any more offensive to the neighbours, and squeeze any more from the crappy french nackered engine! This will mean a custom header at least.

Mechanically, it seems fine now after the CV replacement, Fuel problems and overheating, so soon will be the start of the prep-for-paint!!!
Theres some work to do, as well as look at the possibilities of re-shaping the roof and lowering the seats though im 90% sure they are already sitting on the floorpan already.

Ive filled in most of the white spots with some black spray paint to make the car less appealing to "Old Bill", and im on the lookout for some wheels.

Anyway, enough ramblings from me.

miikae - 5/10/09 at 09:21 PM

Keep up the good work as i am looking forward to see it full painted, needless to say i like it.

Have you decided on a colour scheme yet.

Mike

MakeEverything - 5/10/09 at 09:25 PM

Yes, i think it should take the 5L of silver cellulose that i already have in my garage from a previous project - In true Locost style!!

That with Black wheels, would be quite nice i think. The general concensus on Sunday was positive though Matt black was also bought up as a serious option...

miikae - 5/10/09 at 09:39 PM

OMG not Mondeo silver , i thought you would want something quite Unique for a Unique car like that ,or even blend another colour in with that silver.

Mike

MakeEverything - 5/10/09 at 09:42 PM

I think youre right Mike, and ive been considering a slightly off colour tint - like a yellowy champagne colour - or even a dark tint to make it a gunmetal silver.

Not sure until i get there what colour it will be, as i need to mix a few samples and make some swatches up.

miikae - 5/10/09 at 09:56 PM

When you do finaly do the colour make sure that you have plenty spare, as you will never be able to match it, i have made up some metallic colours in the past and its fun too getting an individual colour and always had plenty spare.

That Champagne colour sounds a good choice , i think the the Vauxhall Tigra had a colour near that as a friend had one a while ago and the colour was always a talking point.

New toy now has a turbo!!

Pictures to follow soon......

Nash - 15/11/09 at 12:52 AM

Can't help thinking this car would look stunning with a Carbon Fibre effect Vinyl Wrap.

Uniques Car, it would look totally authentic finished in CF Vinyl

Check out the video and gallery here for examples. I have no affiliation with these people and I haven't used them the site is just for reference

MakeEverything - 15/11/09 at 10:02 AM

You know what, thats not such a bad idea.

Quite pricey though at "start Around £1500" for a medium sized family car.

What about this;

Ive got mixed feelings on this....

Nash - 15/11/09 at 11:22 AM

It is but I've / heard cheaper prices quoted. Common feeling is prices from £600.

Don't know what the "shelf" life of a wrap is either? but I suspect it protects the bodywork too even if you get 3 or 4 years out of it thats not bad value and you get to reinvent the cars image with some real art.

I am considering it for the Indy next winter, assuming I get some road time next year with it!!!

...........Neil

MakeEverything - 15/11/09 at 02:34 PM

It would save me a shed load of rubbing down time!!
