It only seems to have taken forever and a day but last night I got the engine and gear box joined with the adaptor plate I've had made.
Now the next job is to get it into the frame!

looks great, you'd hardly even notice the adaptor was there
that would look very nice all cleaned up and polished

Yeah, now its done it looks remarkably like its meant to go together.
Here's another view of the thing, you can see virtually all the bolts are covered on the engine side, hence they all needed to be recessed.
Polished? I just want to get the blinking thing in the car and running!

Looks very smart that does
What engine is it?
Well cool
Mint!
Way to go Doug, I love those achieved steps, breaking it down into steps keeps you excited about the whole thing!
looks a proper job that does!
Thanks very much for the responses, I've just spent the evening in the garage and got it into the frame.
The engine BTW is a Toyota 1UZ-FE (32V 4.0L V8)

Looking good Doug, now you get to fiddle with the gear linkage......
Cheers

Congratulations Doug, it's always nice to see a V8 in the middle of a space frame
BTW, is your cheap Hafco engine leveler as crap quality as mine?
Dominic
The Engine leveller is indeed a piece of poo.
On the gear linkage I have a cunning plan... I intend to buy all the original Boxster parts
Doug, why the Toyota motor over say a V6 Commodore out of interest?
On the engine, honestly I just wanted a V8 (but no stinking push rods) the idea of the V6's just did not interest me.
The Ford straight 6 is a good engine IMHO but there's next to no tuning parts available, it was physically too long for the application and its a
cast iron block which all went against it.
Good 1UZ-FE's can be had for ~A$1500 with all the fruit and make 215Kw stock according to the book.
Mine was A$1400 delivered with all the electronics, cats, intake etc.
Power wise they appear to be robust when blown and can make big hp normally aspirated too
this one for example is making over 400bhp at over 9000rpm.
This is where I'd like to get mine too in the end, but I'm sworn off touching the engine before the car is on the road.
Hey, a fellow 1uz-fe er! I'm using one in my car too for pretty much the same reason as you - it's cheap and reliable. Aiming for 500bhp by twin turbo and IC (apparently it's a reasonable objective without cracking open the engine).
Doug, what have you done about the clutch and flywheel?
John
The clutch is the normal unit for the twin turbo V6 Audi, virtually all the Audi boxes have the same input shaft dims. The flywheel is custom as per
the picture below.
Its been fab'd and is in the shed looking beautiful, I'll post a picture of it at some point.

Its bolted through the flex plate and sits on the crank spigot.
Here's a similar set up done by somebody else...

Looks awesome well done mate.
What are you doing about the starter- it doesn't look like it will go in the usual boxster position? Reason I ask is coz I've got the same
problem (Audi 012 box which looks identical).
I got my gearchange fitted and working last weekend and it's spot on. If you want the models for the bell crank mechanism I used just let me
know, it might be cheaper to make than the standard boxster one is to buy.
Cheers
Rob
Hi Rob,
On the 1UZ-FE motor the starter motor is located on the block in the V under the intake manifold.
If you look at the picture of the other guys adaptor plate you can see the starter motor end poking through.
This is another good reason to go for these motors I've been glad I've not had to do any buggering about with the starter location as from
what I've seen this often turns into a major PITA.
The Boxster 5 speed BTW is an Audi 012, the Porsche designation for it is G86, so if you break it they can be replaced by the later Boxster and Caymen
6 speed (G96) units which are supposed to be stronger.
I've yet to price the Boxster linkage price, when I've done that I may well take you up on the model offer.
Thanks,
Hello Doug,
Nice build and I am prepping the same and having problem finding an adaptor plate to mate the 1UZ to the 012. Can you please let me know how to get a
hold of a kit?
Thanks,
Leslie
