Sierra Donor

Hi all. Have found a Sierra donor near to me but dont know much about the make/year. Its a 1.6 K reg hatchback with 108k miles, alloys and seems in good condition. Would anyone know what diff/gearbox/engine its likely to be?? (CVH and Type9??)

Would like to be prepared before I go and look at it Thanks

Should be the cvh and type 9 but you may get the pinto and type 9

No idea!

I bought a '92 j plate Sierra off ebay. Everything on the internet pointed towards it having a CVH and a MT75 box. Bought it sight unseen off ebay and when I picked it up it had a 1.6 pinto and a type 9 on board.

Donor!!!
Donor!!!

Towards the end of the Sierra's Ford just used up stuff they had on the shelf, and badged them up a special editions.

Still using the alloys though!

Sorry

Mike

Thanks big_wasa

I've read loads about the Pinto engine and various tuning options, but not much about the CVH. It will still give me nearly everything I need to start off with anyway. Anything to look out for with the CVH engine??

Ive never seen an Mt75 on anything other than a 2L Dohc.

But as its Ford you never can tell

I think it will be a pinto on a 9

Is there any advantage between the MT75 and the type9? I know one has a bigger bell housing, but what about the internals?

Smoke on start up is valve stem seals. Cheap easy fix. Heads gaskets.

You wont find an easier engine to work on than a cvh.

Re what "repper" said.

I once did one that was so down on power that you had to slip the clutch in first to get it to pull away.

The breather was blocked. Took the rocker cover of and it was just a solid block of carbon. The cam lobes where round. Still it cleaned up well and with a new cam it did many more miles ...

I've just bought a 1.6cvh K-plate 4-door as a daily driver on the basis that if it breaks, I sell the bits.

The MT75 is quite a bit bigger than the type9 so may not fit too well in the kit car of your choice but it will take a lot more punishment, having said that the type9 is plenty strong enough for most applications, both are extrememly reliable.
Whether its a CVH or a Pinto it will definately be a type9 box you have.
Cheers.

Good News!!

Hi again guys,

Had at look at the beast this evening (in between the drizzle) and its a Pinto with Type 9 box. Guys has owned it from 6 months old!!!

There seems to be oil residue round the bottom of the rocker cover/top of the head (new head gasket possibly??) and a few other spots around the block but nothing too major. I am going back for another look in daylight on Sat to see if I can spot anything else.

Are there any areas where oil should deff not be leaking out of on the block, that would mean its a no go???

Any advice eagerly awaited
