Finally got the engine out.

After a few weeks of being too busy to get into the garage I spent a few evenings up there this week and finally got that big v8 out of my beemer.

I've also started to (very carefully) remove the wiring loom, labelling all the connections as I go. There seems to be an awful lot of it.

I'll probably get the gearbox and prop off it this week. All that will be left then will be to roll it outside and get all the bits off that allow it to roll (hubs/brakes/axle etc etc).

I'm hoping to start chassis fabrication some time next month.

It's slow going but at least I'm making progress. Rescued attachment 07052008146.jpg

That's a hell of a motor for a locost

How did you do that??? All the other pics I upload have been normal size, no idea why that one came out so enormous.

Anyway, yeah it's a BMW M60 3.0 DOHC V8 - 218bhp should push a locost along quite nicely. Will have to build it super wide though, I'm guessing at +6" over the ron champion design.

Bit of a late reply, but the Viento is about 6" wider than RC's book.

Thought you might like to know, as a) engine will fit, b) it's a known quality and c) you'll be able to get bodywork
