Use of an Vauxhall Astra for a donor????
AzraeL - 2/6/04 at 09:40 AM

Hello,

I'm new here and I have some questions??
Is an Astra (Mark XX (We call it Kadett)) suitable as donor? Just for the engine 2.0 16V and the steering assembly...
Or will that be a problem since it is originally a FWD car??

Many thanks...

several people on here use vauxhall engines, usually the vx out of the gte. What age is your car?

AzraeL, (as in Batman's pal???)
By all accounts the 16v XE is a great engine but I'm sure it won't take long for others (Ned! ) to start extolling it's virtues!

As far as the steering assembly goes- judging by never having heard of someone using it I suspect there's a good reason why not!
I do believe you can use the Astra balljoints with Sierra uprights though! This would atleast save you having to get your Sierra uprights bored out!

HTH,

James

vx xe all the same to me...

I'm planning on using the same engine you see in the picture beside my posts..
Thats my Vauxhall GT (oldtimer..)
It's the best engine ever built!!(I think..)
And I have lots of experience with that engine.... (I'm very Vauxhall minded you know..) And furthermore it's cheap as hell!!

Only problem is I've read somewhere that the engine you use has to be from the donor-car and that you have to use at least one more part from the donor-car....
Hence the steering-assembly...

Have I been misinformed??

The picture shows my 20XE engine with a Manta 5-speed gearbox...

And yes, by AzraeL I do mean The avenging angel of the order of saint Dumas.... (Batman's pal..)
AND NOT THAT STUPID CAT !!!
Finally someone gets that!!

Wouter

are you intending to do a british SVA test on your car? in england the stuff about two donor parts relates to getting an age related plate as opposed to a Q plate (which goes on a vehicle of unknown origin/age). but life can be easier on a Q plate due to easier emissions laws.

there are a few regulars from the netherlands anyway, who may know the local proceedure.

Can I just point out that I have only heard of Azrael because I happened to hear a radio play of the Batman vs Nightfall story!
Not because I read Batman comics!

Besides...

X-men comics are far better!

The plan is to get them (My nephew will build one simultaneously) SVA-approved in england!
It's virtually impossible over here....

So what you're saying is I don't have to worry about that if a Q-plate is fine by me? Would that also mean that the construction year would automatically become 2004 (or 2005..)?

Thanks!!

Wouter

(It's OK James, no need to get defensive, I don't care if anyone reads comics or not.... WHAHAHAHAHAAHAAA ROFLOL!!!)

theconrodkid - 2/6/04 at 02:45 PM

whats the betting azrael puts the steering wheel on the wrong side

AzraeL - 2/6/04 at 05:25 PM

Let's not get into this......
There is only one ideal place for the steeringwheel... And that's the middle....

Left or right makes no difference whatsoever.....

I've driven right-steered cars in South Africa --> I got used to it within 5 minutes....

The real problem is that you people drive on the wrong side of the road!!!

Wouter...

(can someone please answer some of my questions...)

I heard you guys were actually going to change over though.

From what I gather, to keep traffic down, they'll be doing trucks one week and cars the next.

Atb,
