R1 Cooling - 2005 - Polo Rad

Hi All

I'm trying ot plumb in my 2005 R1 motor using my Polo rad. I can't work out where to plumb the outlet from the oil cooler. It appears to go into a point near the bottom of the radiator. As I'm using a Polo radiator, the outlet form the oil cooler has to go into the top or bottom hose.

Any thoughts?

Here's a diagram from the Yamaha manual.

Wyn

Thanks

I'd seen that. The later R1 looks different ( I had an earlier one)

From memory (and that diagram) on the bike, water goes from the oil cooler outlet into the rad inlet side, through rad and back to the engine (cooled) via the bottom hose. So (and I don't like to disagree with Malc) it should go into the top hose on a Polo rad and return (cooled ) through the bottom hose.

There's a flow diagram in the R1 manual as well as the one you've shown.

It doesn't go in either the top or bottom hose on the bike. the attached picture shows that it goes into the rad at the same level, but the opposite side from the bottom hose / outlet to the pump. So it does get some cooling through the rad. Rescued attachment R1cooling1.jpg

Thanks Guys

I got confused by the bike connecting to the bottom of the intake side of the rad!

I'll connect it to the top hose - it's a little bit more difficult but not a huge problem! Shame I've already prepared the bottom ali pipe (drilled a hole!) for the additional input.

Regards

Wyn
