Engine recommendations

I'm possibly looking for a cheap bike engine for a reliant kitten (or similar) conversion currently in planning for winter/summer '07. For purposes of MOT (as it wont need SVA), what age engine should i look for (emissons? is it possible to just use the bike exhaust without extra bits?). And for something like this, is it worth buying a whole bike (probably damaged) or just the bits i need. I was thinking along the lines of pre '95 blade or ZZR1100 etc....! Thanks in advance.

I dont think you'd have to SVA it, Id hope not cos there's abslutely no chance that something like a Reliant Kitten would pass SVA IMHO.

As for emissions, I dont think that would matter either as your car will still be tested for emissions based on its registration rather than the engine you've put in, so same (presumably non cat) emission levels as it is at present.

technically my kitten should go for sva as ive changed the rear axle but as an engine swap using the reliant axle will be exempt and most test centres will go on what the vts computer throws up( i run a test station) arry dont bother with the relaint axle as it WILL snap the halfshafts as i found out first time i fitted the tl motor driving the axle. a pal in chester has bought a z-cars mini kit and is really struggling to get his seats in now . if you want a simple set up i have built some wide track wishbones and stretched the de dion axle i madee to give it a 55 3/4 track which means an early escort axle will go in the back but you will need 13" rims to cover the brakes and some mini sportpack arches to cover the extra width .the zzr will go in the front but you will have to cut the bulkhead out and move the seats back to make it all work. check out the kitten online site for pics of a blade engined kitten in holland Rescued attachment arch2.jpg
