Can someone in the know have a look at the photo's in the archive for my propshaft.
I would like your opinion on the angle.

Hi Coozer

I had a look at the pictures, and its hard to tell really, to me it looks like the centre bearing mount might be a little low, but it might just be the angle of the picture. The angle you've got looking down onto it (the first picture) looks about the same of mine, but to be honest, props are a bit of a black art, and what works on one car, will vibrate a lot on another.
Sorry its not more conclusive!

Chris

I kept the prop as level as I could as the gearbox and diff flange where fairly even. The centre bearing is up to keep the whole lot flat. I'm more curious about the angle from the centre bearing to the motor. Rescued attachment GearLinkage_3.jpg

Mine runs a similar angle to that from the bearing to the engine, and I think you'll struggle to get it a lot better, although I have got a UJ on the front end of my prop where it connects to the prop adapter on the engine, but it looks like yours is a rubber donut type cush drive (?), in which case it might not like running at much of an angle.

There is a uj at the motor end as the prop is a standard Escort affair turned round. The end that normally fits on the diff flange is at the engine and the gearbox slider was cut off and a sliding joint from a Sherpa van fitted. Come to think of it, is there a problem with running the prop 'back to front'???

What is the triangular bit on the end of the prop that is up near the engine, is that just the flange that mates to the prop adapter? That was the bit that confused me, looked like a flange that would mount to a rubber donut or something. I couldnt see from the pic whether there was a UJ just behind that flange, but looking again I can see there is, I think?
Not sure about running it backwards, I cant imagine there would be any problems, but might be worth speaking to someone like Bailey Morris to confirm.

The UJ is standard Ford, the one you bolt to the diff. Heres a pic from the front where you can see the adapter and gear linkage

Ah OK, couldnt see that UJ from the other pic, thats fine then Id say .
Like I said, mine is at a similar angle, and its almost impossible in a Locost type chassis to get it any straighter, so not a lot you can do other than try it and see if its OK.

cheers
Chris
