Duff ZX9 Fuel Pump?
Bought a pump from a ZX9 off e-bay and wanted to test it before i left feedback.
Put 12v accross it and it didnt make a sound 
I take it that with a 12v feed it should begin to chatter away? or am i doing something wrong?

I suspect your correct, unless the ZX9 use's a different pump to any iv'e seen or used, it may be stuck though, give it a few taps or even
drop it from around 12", it may fire up. I had a blade pump i had too knock hell out of from time too time before i dished it and fitted a new
one.

Yep, shock treatment worked on my bike as well. Put some petrol through it or fire some WD down it while you're at it.

i gave it a bit of a knock but still nothing, I put the multimeter across it and i get continuity between the +ve and -ve terminals - is that normal?

If its only got two wires, one must be +ve and one must be -ve surely, unless the body of the pump is meant to be earthed and one of the two wires is
a relay switch?
Is there anywhere to download the ZX9 service manual cos you could probably work it out from there (it might even list a testing procedure) -
Rorty's recent post with loads of links perhaps?

the ZX9 manual wond download ,
There is no visible tag on the sasing for earth and there is also a rubber mounting band which i suspect is used for vibration damping and for
insulation.
i fear the worst unless any ZX9ers can confirm another method of testing it?

if you do conclude its buggered just ask for a refund before leaving negs - the seller might have another he can send.

if i read that diagram right then, the 12v is hust switched through a relay?
So me putting 12v across it hould make it work?

I would always give the seller the chance to sort it out before giving negative feedback.

I wired the relay in but when it came to testing the electrics I could not test the pump without the engine running. I can't start the engine
because the sump is off at the moment. I have now binned the relay so when the ignition is switched on the pump starts straight away. Before doing
this I put 12v across the pump and it started.

Contacted seller who said he ran the bike before he broke it.
He has another so is going to send that as a replacement

BTW - for future reference - you don't need a specific ZX pump, all bikes use just a couple of different pumps. All breakers have them, about
£40-50 usually. After one failed on a track day I always carried a spare....

It was the cheapest one on e-bay , maybe for a good reason!
i was planning on using it to fuel my CBR1000.
40-50 quid for a fuel pump!?
Posh breakers down south then , red carpets up between the rows of cars/bikes then eh Jasper

It was a Sunday afternoon next in a breakers next to the circuit at Llandau, Wales - he must have known I was desperate to get back on track!
My spare was a pressie from a mate
BTW - nice bit of pump mounting, but it won't be quite so accessible once you get the back panel on!

When I went to the breakers and asked for a fuel pump he came back with box load of them. The only difference between them all was the rubber
mounting. Most pumps are made by Mitsubishi and the manufacturer's design there mounting to suit the bike so I chose one with a decent rubber
mount.
