Air filter
Hi guys,
I'm after a bit of guidance on air filters. I currently have a 2002 fuel injected R1 engine running a standard airbox with K&N filter.
However, the inlet is currently right next to the engine and must suck in warm air once the cars up to temps. I do have the duct on my bonnet but this
probably doesn't have a great effect. My options therefore are to add a naca duct to the bonnet and force air direct into the side of the airbox
(which I have a 70mm pipe ready for, or get an open sausage filter that would sit by the bonnet vent. My only concerns are all the pipes that run out
of the airbox at present. I know one is a breather which I can get a small filter for but am unsure on the rest.
Basically what I'm after is finding out what others have done that have this engine, and how they have found the noise and drivability. Pictures
would also be good as everyone likes pictures ;-)

Most people report a slight drop in power, and an increase in induction noise using a sausage filter rather than an airbox. Personally I would go for
a NACA duct to get cool air in, and venting of your side panel(s) to get the hot air out. By venting one of my side panels, my under bonnet
temperature dropped by about 15-20C.

Hi
we use a std R1 airbox which I modified to fit reversed
works fine on our car.
if it ok for Yamaha , why change it.

Exactly, keeping the inlet as near to the bike as possible saves a lot of grieve.

Hi again
By reversing the airbox , this also makes the inlets
right under the bonnet air scoop.
