ZX9R IVA emissions query.
Finally got the emissions tester unlocked, and managed to do a few tests on the MK.
These are the results so far:
@3000rpm:
CO 1.9
HC 780
CO2 12.68
@ idle
CO 3.5
Not good I fiddled around for an hour, but didn't get any better readings. I then refitted the original air injection system
and got these readings:
@3000rpm
CO 0.001
HC 69
CO2 14.42
@ idle
CO 0.002 (with HC at 273)
The oxygen sensor is showing MS18, so is dead, I have one on order. So what lambda readings am I likely to get with
those readings, if it's possible to judge? Knowing my luck probably miles out
Also interesting to see the readings drop so dramatically with the air injection refitted, I took it off like everyone else and
have set the carbs up without it.

Oxygen sensor arrived, so rechecked the emissions, was a bit gobsmacked actually:

That isn't the oil temp, it's the temp in the silencer, the cat was around 450-500c, I could see the lambda change as it got hotter.
Well pleased, no faffing, just balanced carbs, set idle mixture with a Gunsons spark plug thingy and refitted air injection system
It will need setting up after IVA, RPM jumps from 2500 to 2900, but not touching it till after test.

Hi
What kind of a meter are you using to get these readings, definitely need that, looks good.
Have to do the first MOT on my zx9r indy, so have to do the same.
Do you have pics of the air injection system you are using..looks like I need something silimar

I have a Lucas/Protech ex MOT analyser, I have a friend with a MOT garage, he gave me his old one on permanent "loan".
The air injection valve is the one in the centre of the cam cover, it's connected to carbs 1&4 vacc ports.

You had one on your engine,photo from your archive

You can see the difference it made with these before and after shots.

The carbs seem to be running on the rich side, the air injection gives a leaner gas before the cat.
