Happy New Year - My Fireblade locost is nearly ready
Finally afetr 9 years (yes 9 years) my fieblade locost is ready (waiting for the back cover) and will start the registration process.
Spec is familiar with the ususal BM TRT props, Quaife box, Tillett setas, Rally design uprights, Sierra diff, De-dion rear end, hand operated gear
change..etc
The un-usual stuff is the body (home made bonnet and shuttle) and widened GTS nose cone and rear end as my chassisi is 75mm wider and 50mm longer. All
Al is black coated 1mm and the dash and tunnel are balsa (re-inforced)with balck upholstery. Its got a professional paint job in Ferrari Giallo
Modena
Let me know your opinion but dont be too harsh....
Thanks to all of you for your valuable and prompt assistance
Now for the registration.....aaaahhhhhh

Hi Phil, looks great but I was wondering what sort of registration do you need in Malta, I thought that four wheels and a seat were all you needed for
an MOT !!!

Nice job.
"and the dash and tunnel are balsa"
I've never thought of using balsa. Isn't polystyrene lighter?

Thanks for your comments.
The first time registration process is way much complex and more expensive than everywhere in the world. It is worked out by a magic formula whcih
takes into ocnsidertaion the following:
emissions x wheelbase x price
Here is the catch:
Emissions: If you do not have a specified value of emissions than you automatically qualify into the highest bracket!
Price: You have to provide copies of the invoices that you have paid. Further to that they put an estimated number of hours used to complete the
project and put a charge of £1.75/hr on top of the total expense. This will work out the overall price of your car!
So there you go if one is not careful teh registration might easily cost 75% of teh atcual value of teh vehicle...
As if that was not enough the yearly road tax is worked purely on emissions (irrespective of what type/make) and given that the car will be
categorized on the max of the bracket the yearly fee will start at €500 for the first year going up to €1600 in year 8!
You do not have a clue on how lucky you are in the UK!!!

WOW, that sounds complicated and expensive. Might be cheaper in the longrun to IVA it in the UK and then import it to Malta......

That is a very good idea indeed but the same will apply with the sole exception that they will not include the build hours as it is already done! So
the situation will not change much!
