Blade engine age

Now then,

One of the club members has a fireblade engine which he thinks is pre cat.

How does he check the age of his engine?

Ta muchly

Assuming youre talking about for SVA purposes, there is one of two ways;

Check the engine number against those printed in the Haynes maintenance manual, or ring Honda UK for a precise date.

Also, if the number 893 is stamped on the block, there's a good chance it'll be pre 1995. Any other number is most likely post 1995.

Have a look on the clutch cover side, the engine size will be stamped on a flat, 893cc anything larger will be to new I suspect, these lumps carry a premium because of this.

Most testers will accept the Fireblade Haynes book of lies as the truth!!! Amusing really.

Otherwise blow £30 at Honda UK.

That's ok if you have an engine from 1994 or older but if you have a 1995 engine, you'll need a letter from Honda confirming the exact date. The blade engine we originally fitted was dated 9th July 1995 so just scraped into the lower emissions test for SVA.
