MotaLeira First Drive
Sorry no vid. Went like the clappers!!!
I have a few issues:
Although electric reverse seperate from bike electrics, I wired a relay into the N to prevent the starter from being engaged. Problem is that when I
engage reverse, it kills the engine. I can only think that it is sucking the life out of the battery?
Gearshift indicator on the VR2 works, DG8 does not as I can't program it.
Reading on here, not enough pulses as I have a single magnet for the VR2.
It looks like I will have to get another hall sensor and set up more magnets just for that. Is there some sort of speed reading off the ecu? If so I
could use that.
Fuel tank sensor works but I think that it only works on bulbs. I fitted an led which probably will work from low voltages from 5V-12V so is
permenantly on.
Another worry is that my bubble screens are above eye level, is this a fail?
I managed to glue all of my cycle wings on. Still loads of edges to cover!
The air levelling suspension works faultlessly
Just waiting for nose to come back from painters.

There's a measurement for the height of the screens before they need wipers/demister. Sorry, can't remember the numbers.
Looks good but I'm not sure about the red edge trim.

That looks so cool - mucho respect.
As for the screens just leave them of for SVA, they can always find their way on later.

I appreciate your car isn't an Atom ....... but are atom sides that high?
Its the first time i've noticed they seem shoulder height.
Looking forward to seeing it clothed (oh ok, the front nose on).

The atom side rails are lower. Personally I like them at shoulder height to protect me!

Wait for the comments when you put the nose on! I can see the Bat-mobile connection though with those screens.

Hi Martin
Probably stating the obvious, but...
If you can remove the screens the all the better for the SVA.
A full screen will be tested for demisting, washer/wipers.
Less to test means less to fail.
Check for radii even sides/front that meet the bottom of your car.
Plus, don't just check you car for complience, check lights, steering wheel etc.
Can not see side repeater's in your picture.
Martin.

Side repeaters are going on the nose, but are also on the back of the mirrors!
I was thinking of removing the screens.
I'm pretty sure that they will find something.....

Good on you mate, awesome achievement. I'd love to see it at a show sometime.
I would like to see a photo with the nose on as I think it's going to add a lot too it. I'm with Adrian on the red bits though and I can
see the batmobile connection, but hey, the whole thing far outweighs my opinion.

I went for red instead of boring black.
I also plan on getting the side aluminium panels wrapped with some decent graphics

Oh please put Heinz baked beans graphics on the tub and show the Atom owners that it really looks like it was cut with a tin opener. They've
probably never seen a tin opener because their mams do it for them because they're as weak as their own comments and excuses!
What a bunch of uneducated, none appreciative, more money than brains, "please mummy I want bitty", know f**k all about cars and driving
because I saw it on Top Gear and just paid through the arse for one to be built for me arris holes!

Just seen some of the comments from the Atom site.
And there was me thinking the people running our banks were the biggest W******S on the planet.
If they only stopped for a minute to see the resources some have and achieve so much.
Good luck with the SVA
Martin.

From their comments, there is not one original comment amongst them.
They called my car an Atom Clone, but by their very comments they say it is not and they think I'm mad!
The only Atom Clones are the people all making the same comments.
What is funny is that if a reasonable person comes across their website, they are providing the evidence of them all being t*ssers.
I'm not going to comment on the thread any further, just let it roll until they realise that they have embarassed themselves.

Who says I am competing? Thanks for the compliment!
I built my car, for me, the way I wanted to.
By the way how much is the insurance on an atom? Cough!

Forum rules are no discussion of clones / replicas except in that thread. For what its worth I don't think yours is half as bad as many in that
thread. Still what would I know being an Atom owner and therefore a know nothing tosser (to paraphrase some of the previous posters on this
thread)

A-holes aside, you built a fantastic looking car!
Are these fenders (wings for you Brits) from Carbonmods?
How hard were they to install and how solid are they once installed?
I'm considering them for my car.

bigben, don't you think that the comments were understandable considering that all I got was nothing but abuse?
When you consider it has taken me 20 months of graft and lots of calcs, drawings and testing things to get this right and someone who just writes a
cheque and has no building experience gives me a slating, what would you say?
Some of the comments are so funny. Like comments about my "hatchet tub" and tin opener etc.
The tub was cut on a cnc machine and welded. I prefer a metal floor to a fiberglass one.
The rails were cnc rolled.
Blackbird, the wings are fairly easy to fit as long as you plan your work. Not cheap though at £200 per pair.
I made brackets that bolt to uprights (purpose made captive threads) and folded round bar that goes over the tyres.
The edges of the wings are drilled to pass the rod through and still maintain the strength of the wing edge and then I used tigerseal to stick them
on.
At first I just put some dabs of tigerseal to make sure they were where I wanted them and then I put plenty on plus I used some fine aluminium mesh
that goes from under the bars and onto the underside of the wings to help.
The main thing is that I keyed the surface of the wings and the bars with course glasspaper.
I've yet to drive the car at high speed but I'm keeping my fingers crossed!
