Finally finished chassis, time to start on engine. I am looking for a good source of information to strip, inspect and rebuild 1600 pinto to standard spec. Something on the net would be great. Engine came from Capri laser if thats any help. Also as with everything else I have no previous experience in tackling this.

What year was your Capri? I have a Haynes manual for the Capri 1974-82 1.6 & 2.0 Pinto engines. It's yours for £5 + postage if it's of any use.

Thanks for the offer nick but I managed to get one from a local car boot sale/market yesterday. The only problem I find with them is they are quite hard to follow jumping from section to section. Also its the inspection of the parts bit that Haynes is not totally clear on. It would be helpful if I could find a website that shows in colour what I should be looking for and what is normal wear and can be reused.

Try your local engine machine shop, If they are at all decent they will probably inspect/measure your bores and crank etc probably free of charge. you will need to use them if any machining is needed anyhow, With out decent measuring equipmentyou can only estimate wear . Have found in the past it was often cheaper to buy a reconditioned engine than to rebuild your own , AND it is also warranted. Rusty
