Postage costs/options - UK to Australia
TheGecko - 11/6/09 at 11:28 PM

Hi all,

My brother (not a member of this forum) is looking at an eBay item (this one) which is in York. It's a toolbox (empty) - the seller says it weighs 4.3kg. Royal Mail surface mail to Brisbane, Australia - £61.39 !!

Can any members in the UK suggest less expensive alternatives? This is in no way urgent so express, expedited, personalised, hand carried, mink-lined, air freight is not necessary

Thanks in advance,

Dominic

Would it not be cheaper to buy a similar box in Australia?

Given that this is an original factory special tools box for the Honda S800 - a car made from 1967-1970 with total production of about 5,000 - probably not

Given what I've been quoted to have things delivered to Canada lately, the cost is in fact astronomical, and there is no slow, cheaper way to go. I wish I had bought more stuff when I was at Detling. I could have cleared half the locost builders' garages in Kent too, and brought it back cheaper than having it shipped.

Put some documents in it and send it as printed papers, much cheaper.

Try these people:

Interparcel

I sent some stuff to my daughter in Sydney - Parcel Farce wanted £85 with no tracking of the package(which I had to take to their office), Interparcel set me up with DHL for £50-odd, fully tracked, and collected from my house. DHL also delivered a couple of days earlier than quoted.
