Jolt or Squirt!!
fuz - 9/9/06 at 09:44 PM

Hi
Whats the difference between megajolt and megasquirt.
We have a 1.6l zetec and are still deciding what inlet to use. Think we are going to go for GSXR 600's.
Bit confused at the moment as to wether we use an EDIS or just the jolt or squirt. Can anyone make this a bit clearer for me. Thanks

Andy

Megajolt is Electronic programable Ignition System that uses the Ford EDIS ignition system (Crank sencor, coil pack and Motorcraft module). This would be used on a car running Carbs.

Megasquirt is a Fuel Injection ECU system than can also contol Ignition, either using the Motorcraft Module or controling the coil pack directly depending on what version you make/purchase.
This would be used on a car Running Fuel Injection either single or multiple throttle bodies.

So basically, if we use the GSXR throttle bodies we'll have to use the megasquirt, and if we decide to use webber twin 40's we could only use the megajolt?

To run TB's you would HAVE to use Megasquirt, but:

Megasquirt could be used on the Twin 40's setup and be used for Ignition timing only but it would be a waste of its functions and more expencive.

We've had Twin 40's on out Pinto and are changing to Throttle Bodies and Megasquirt over the winter so that would obviousley be my vote over the 40's.

Saying that it would be alot simpler wireing and set-up to use the 40's and megajolt than the TB's

Thanks for that. It's made it alot clearer. Was going to go for GSXR throttle bodies for the cheapness, but it will cost more for the megasquirt.
Twin 40's are more expensive than the GSXR inlets but the megajolt will be cheaper!!

You think they're gunna weigh themselves out price wise or from your experience, will the twin 40 set up be cheaper. Cheapness is our main priority on the build as we are using it as a learning curve.

for cheapness and still give good power ,i would go megajolt and bike carbs, hell of a lot cheaped than twin 40s easy to set up and wiring up megajolt is easy

Yup, i've you've still got to buy the inlet arrangement i'd go with Tom's Suggestion.

Thanks guys. Yeh, been getting a bit mixed up between throttle bodies and Carbs. Thought the bike ones where all injected. Thanks for your advice. We've decided to go with the GSXR carbs and Megajolt. Cheers, Andy

Bike carbs and megajolt is the cheapest although the manifold isnt that cheap for them..
