Iv got nothing better to do at the minute as my donor is stripped and all parts are cleaned so im waiting for paint and chassis! however im going to
take a look at my propshaft and want to measure it up for chopping unless it will be easier for me to buy a new one. what do you guys suggest i should
do
how much needs taking off the prop and where do i cut?
cheers
James
James,
Wait till you've assembled chassis, with your engine and box fitted, and your axle (diff if IRS), then measure the gap.
Then get a pro to make one for you - it can turn at very high rpm - could be as high (or higher depending on g/box ratios) 7-8000 rpm - you DO NOT
want it breaking or vibrating.
My R V8 has theorectical max engine speed of 5500, top gear ratio is 0.82 so prop will be spinning at 6707!!!!!
If it breaks at the box end, it won't stop rattling around until you've stopped the car.

Anyone have any ideas about where to get a propshaft shortened? Need it for racing so one that is sleeved for strength and balanced really.
Autoprop in Sussex, Mike Barrett, 01342 322623, did mine, neat job, good price, not run it up to speed yet but I'm sure it will be fine
Cheers Simon good advice there.
how much was yours then Jasper?

I can't remember exactly how much mine was from Autoprop, between £80 & 90 I think. All new bits.
well that sounds a lot of money but as its a serious safety issue its money i dont mind spending really if it keeps me and a passenger alive!

Simon,
I don't know about your setup but my Rover LT77 gearbox has a 4 bolt flange, as has my Sierra Diff (I think anyway). Given that the Fords seem to
have a splined shaft at the front to accommodate varying length due to suspension movement, how is this accomplished with the RV8?
I shouldn't be so bad since I'm using a diff which is bolted to the chassis but with a live axle you must need some movement. From talking
to Chazpowerslide he doesn't think it will be a problem. Would you agree?
I guess I'll have to be very accurate when measuring the required length of the propshaft.
Thoughts?
Cheers,
Craig.
Mine was £100 with all new UJ's
well when i go to order my chassis next weekend i will ask MK about a propshaft on an exchange basis and see how much that will be. Thats would seem
the easiest option to me.

There's a place local to me that say they will modify my existing escort prop for £45 !!
