Is it possible to use a steering column from later escorts with fwd or are they a lot of hassle?

I would have thought using the column will present no issues (presuming you can weld to extend it). The mounting will be different. In the book it suggests Vauxhall Nova columns as well

The rack is useless, but i assume you know that already.

As with other front wheel drive cars I think the steering rack works on levers to the rear of the hubs, so if you were to use one of those racks on the locost when you steered right it would turn left and vice versa. I found this to my cost when I installed a peugeot 205 rack in myb locost only to realise my mistake when I had just finished!

Ignore the above, read it as rack, not column. Its another mistake that is etched on my memory
