Whats the best solution, ie power, noise etc.
4 into 2 into 1
4 into 1
im going to be using the standard can for sva, and steve, not doing it in titanium now.
Had a chat to Dave Walker about this, pity I'd had a beer or two.
Doesn't a 4-2-1 give more mid range and a 4-1 give more top end ?
Maybe talking out of my arse mind
Fine, be gay then and do it in 1.2mm stainless..........
And yes, Lyn is correct - It's commonly accepted that the correct lengthed 4-2-1 is for best mid range and 4-1 with correct sized collector is
for best top end...
Just get a price for the titanium bits!!!
Steve
ok, im going in st/st 4-2-1.
Anyone one know the ideal length of hedders, collectors etc
When considering a header design, the following points need to be considered:
1) Header primary pipe diameter (also whether constant size or stepped pipes).
2) Primary pipe overall length.
3) Collector package including the number of pipes per collector and the outlet sizing.
4) Megaphone/tailpipe package.
There are many ideas about header pipe sizing. Usually the primary pipe sizing is related to exhaust valve and port size. Header pipe length is
dependent on wave tuning (or lack of it). Typically, longer pipes tune for lower r.p.m. power and the shorter pipes favor high r.p.m. power. The
collector package is dependent on the number of cylinders, the engine configuration (V-8, inline 6, etc.), firing order and the basic design
objectives (interference or independence). The collector outlet size is determined by primary pipe size and exhaust cam timing.
On my old Phoenix I used the specs as recommended by Rich Miles.

I now have a standard off the shelf Fisher 4-1 but have yet to do the back to back rolling road comparisons. I dont believe there is going to be a
huge difference though.
4-2-1 will probably take up more space and reduce the length of silencer you can fit. This is more of an issue for full bodied cars than 7s as there
is a limit to how large a circumference can you can fit in a side pod.

I've read / heard somewhere that the BSB / WSB teams now use unequal length headers.
Matching the waves as they meet etc etc, lamina flow, turbulent flow, etc etc.
Why don't you just turbo it ?
I'm not ready yet but where do you get things like this made? Are they available for a 7 of the shelf. I'll be looking for stainless and if
its a matter of taking the car need somewhere near to west yorks.

Andy,
Zorstec in Shipley did mine to Rich Miles' spec. It was £440 about 4 years ago and was great!
Joe (welderman) is going to be making it himself.

bends and tube arrived today and worX drove the 45 min in the rain on his R6 to drop off the collector.
Ta cocker.
Will get cracking on it tonight and post some pictures later.
Cheers again shaky, .
good luck with it chap, look forward to seeing it all come together
First picture of the manifold, did a coulple of late nights this week.
Just been tacked up so a bit of play to get it how i want it, tried to get the primarys to a semi-equal length, bit more work to do.

now all welded up .

Nice work Mr Joe.
Nice work mate! Are you making your own silencer?
adrian
If you hadn't spent so much time watching "that Keeley Hazel video" you'd have that all done by now!!!
Only kiddin - Looking really good mate - A proper exhaust...
Steve
He's got an R1 silencer that he's using for now - well that's the current plan anyway...

The carbon type? I have one of those and was advised not to use it because of the heat build up in the side pod causes them to blister.

zorstec!!

Ta for the replys of encouragement lads, thanks for the snaps too Adrian, yes i do have a standard R1 exhaust, but its the ally one not carbon, so
hopefully this will be ok. Was going to make one but it's not see.
Just a pointer though, if the exit on the 4into1 is 50mm, im sure the R1 can is 65mm, will this be better in a ways of getting the gasses out
quicker.?
r1 locost, thats looking shiny, might give mine a bit of a polish when it's done.
Adrian, where did you get your cat from by the way.
Got my cat from here. Could check prices for you next week if you want.

Off the top of my head it was the BMU38. Not pretty but that doesn't matter on the Fury. 200cpi instead of 400cpi of a standard cat gives a bit
more flow.
adrian
so is you cat still on, i thought you could take it off once the sva man had done his bit.
Yes, cat's still on. Plan to make a new exhaust with a BIG silencer. Same length as the current one and cat' together. Should get the noise
down a bit for some of the tighter db limit tracks.
Just need to get some stainless pipes, etc.
adrian
ah ha so its still on, right need to get one me thinks, Ta Adrian
