Blade lump questions
toady - 31/10/07 at 08:23 PM

Hi guys, I need a couple of questions answered as a newbie. I've started building a locoblade. Does the engine need to be rubber mounted, or can it be rigid fixed? It is only for road use, so do I still need to baffle the sump? I bought a lot of Escort mk2 stuff as I was going to use that for the donor. Presumably I can still use the axle and maybe the 2 piece propshaft?
That will do for now, any replies appreciated.

solid or poly bushed is ok. blade motors are normally bullet proof in a car install and most don't baffle the sumps
rear axle should be ok so long as the ratio is around 3.5 or 3.6 to 1
not sure about the prop but would imagine its ok.
(no personnal live axle experiece just IRS)

while its out baffle the sump for what it costs worth it in my opinion

And for what it's worth, buy a new prop.

I've now seen what happened to 3 cars where the prop failed.

One hit and split the fuel lines causing a huge fire and the end of an expensive race car.

Cheers for the info. Now got a small issue with my engine number. You can read it fine but not sure now what the engine is. SC29E2001XXX

sc29 is still a blade engine but produced only for France so may be tuned/restricted as per European legislation poss only 100bhp

Thanks for that Rich. Would it be easy to de-restrict it, or tune back to uk spec. Now I know why it was cheap.

well i have done a bit of digging on a french fireblade forum and looks like it is only 100 bhp and restricted by milder camshafts.
so some uk cams and a bit of rejetting should sort it out.

the forum said cams from E-bay at 60 euros so maybe worth a look. or it may have already been done you never know.

I would fit it then see how it goes and maybe look for cams if it lacks a bit of power.

How dare you steal my name! and even more...how come you get the name without the 1 at the end!!!!!!

As for blade engine, theyre awesome units! Ive just fit the newer model engine in mine, just had it tuned by PDQ and it put out 130bhp at the rear wheels! its bloody quick!

Sorry, didnt mean to nick your name, and fancy you having a blade lump as well. Might change mine as its down on power and I havent got that far yet.

yeah so I see, dont dissmiss the blade engine tho mate! really are good units! If i was to do mine again id go for something like an injected blackbird and look into turbo'ing it for 250bhp+. To save you lots of money tho you may aswell just keep your unit and get it sorted as suggested above. good luck!
