BEC engine swap
locosaki - 12/10/07 at 11:26 AM

Hi all,
Just registered here today and I'm looking for a little advice,I have GPZ1000RX installed in my locost and the engine is on it's way out,It's a 1986 model so there is no shame to it,My question is,I want to try and keep the swap over simple i.e using the same cradle and bottom montains sproket adapter etc,so basically it would be just a straight swap !!
Is there any other engine I could use apart from the above,I was thinking maybe ZZR 1100 ?
Any input will be much appreciated ??
Cheers Mike

not sure the mounts would be the same so may have to change the cradle, the prop adaptor may be okay, plumbing will be different and in your going to injection you will need a high pressure pump

Thanks for that Dan,If I want to keep it simple I would have to use another GPZ unit then,I was hoping one of the older units that kawasaki produce might have had the same mounting points.
Cheers

Hi Locosaki

Welcome to the mad house.

As far as I know the GPZ900 and the ZZR1100 used the same block, with just changes to the bore and stroke. I'm not sure about the GPZ1000 though!

I can check the manual when I get home, but in the interim I have a couple of dimensioned photos of my engine cradle (for a ZZR1100).

I know the ZZR1100 and GPZ900 sumps are the same shape (apart from the depth and routing of the connections).

Hope that helps.

Mike

I believe the gpz1000 is the same as the old ZX10, if so you're in luck because the zx10 & zzr1100 are identical apart from a few internal bits - I have a zzr1100 side casing on one of my zx10's

That makes sense,The version I have is the ZX10 A,if that means anything ??

I think the blocks are almost identical as far as I know, I heard about swapping of sumps from the GPZ900 as well.
They don't use fuel inection either so your fuel system should be fine.

Also I just happen to have a ZZR1100 D3 with ancillaries for sale, if your close enough come and have a proper measure up

I'm based in Chandlers Ford, Hampshire

Cheers

So with mine being on it's last legs the ZZR1100 should be a better/more powerful option that the GPZ1000RX ??
