which one would you go with for strength? the top hole on the box (red line) or the bottom one (yellow one)?

roadrunner - 9/4/07 at 08:23 PM

I would say top one , if i had to pick, because it is more verticle, should give more support, with less strength needed,IMHO.

ReMan - 9/4/07 at 08:24 PM

What the f'big hole above those two for?

blakep82 - 9/4/07 at 08:25 PM

red top. the weight would push down more "into" the rail, the yellow one may try to bend it down putting the weight into the weld, rather than the rail itself, but yeah, both would be quite good too

is that the steering shaft to the left? did you use any telescopic sections to it? or is the protection given by the angles in the UJs?

Yes that looks about right.
In which case I'd be inclined to bush it and use it, lods of meat round it compare to using a 6mm scew hole.
Actually now I've got my glasses on the red one is a "proper" mount is'nt it? In which case use it

mark chandler - 9/4/07 at 08:35 PM

Both for me also !

Toady1 - 9/4/07 at 08:42 PM

I was more inclined to go for the red one as some of you have said the way it would put its force onto the mount. Both I might do, but looking at other examples around it may be a bit overkill. The top cradle is going to use a drop down link for the big swing arm bush.

Red one...

If I was going to do belts and braces I'd do a red one to the top of the tube and a yellow one to the side...

If you go for both at least you can use thinner tube / square section for the cradle...

ReMan - 9/4/07 at 09:23 PM

Thanks Ox for noticing that I am slightly under par http://www.locostbuilders.co.uk/viewthread.php?tid=63692

Try again.......
Couldn't the top drop down link use this one, then the bottom use the bigger of the two and ignore the swingarm holeo? Rescued attachment bottommount2.jpg

Im not sure now if i was going to use the swingarm hole for the drop down mount off the cradle ot the one OX pointed out. But either way will that be strong enough to hold the engine?

tim windmill - 10/4/07 at 08:37 AM

we used the red one on our 929 install and had no probs

Toady1 - 10/4/07 at 12:30 PM

cheers tim, did you use the swing arm hole or the one above it to mount the cradle?

jacko - 10/4/07 at 06:48 PM

When i did tim,s enginewe used the white arrowed hole and the red hole
Jacko

tim windmill - 11/4/07 at 07:25 AM
