Finished weight BEC Single Seater
lsdweb - 13/3/07 at 07:44 AM

Hi All

My BEC single seater is going on the corner weights this week and Martin who rebuilt the chassis and I are trying to guess the finished weight! He thinks nearer 350kg and I'm tending to think closer to 400.

Any guesses??

The spec is on my site and is basically Formula Ford 2000 with shortened chassis, R1 engine, chain drive diff. There are lots of alloy bits (hubs, brakes etc) and the wheels are alloy split rims or magnesium. Some of the bodywork is now in carbon.

Wyn

I'll put a stake in the ground and say 365kg.

Looks like a lot of development effort has gone into it - how long has it taken you?

My GSXR engined single seater weighs in at 273kg, but everything is made by me down to a minimum weight. (The monocoque weighs 16.5kg).
If you have built the car based on a formula ford 2000 chassis, yours will be at least 100kg heavier, so I think you are right at 400kg.

I reckon about 375kgs, I doubt a fully Pinto'd up FF2000 weighs much more than 450-475kgs so you should be comfortably under 400.

I'll WAG 349kg

What do we win if we are closest

Thanks guys - very interesting.

Phil.J - boy would I love to be close to 273kg but I'll be happy with 373!! Of course, I could shed a few kilos myself (says he munching a kit kat!)

It's still going to be far too quick for me !!!

lsdweb - 15/3/07 at 10:37 AM

350kg exactly!

iank - bloody good guess - if you're ever in West Wales I'll buy you a beer :-)

I could get it down to around 320kg - front dampers are steel, carbon bodywork, ditch the extinguisher (but seen to many burnt corpses to do that!).

Still it'll be over 400BHP per tonne - far too much for me!

Hi Joe

Turbo is tempting!! But, that would put me in the top class, with anything over 1100cc!!

I need to get to grips with it as it is without turning it into a BE rocket!!

Shame to see your mini going btw. The guys who have done my chassis are building a BEC midi mini - it looks very funky!!

Mini had to go, needed the cash for a tin top upgrade oil burner.
But may get a trailer or fab one up to pull the Indy around, going turbo may have reliability issues Rescued attachment animal.jpg
