Does anyone else have one of these from a 4xv carbed engine?

There are more than one design of ECU/CDI mine has 2 plugs attached to it, some only have 1 plug.
Im having problems getting a spark, turning over ok. i have been told to ground BOTH the black wires coming from the ecu. One is already grounded but
there is a thinner black that comes from the smaller of the 2 plugs and runs up to the original bike ignition swith where it turns into a Blue/Black.
I have grounded this but still no spark.
If your using the same ECu which pins have you grounded?
Im close............damn close to making it run!
Make sure you have 12V going to the coils. You can't make a spark without it.
Make sure you are getting a signal from the pickup coil, the ECU can't time the spark without the pickup signal.

mines got the same box , just checked my wiring and the thin black wire goes to a connector which appears to be bridged then one of the black wires in
the connector then goes up the loom where it changes to blue and black

12V check with a voltmeter. easy.
Pickup coil signal is a bit more tricky. The signal out of the sensor will either be 12V normally and 0V (ish) when triggered or 0V normally and 12V
when triggered. either way, when the engine is running the voltage will be somewhere in the middle. That, or put the meter on AC volts.
I borrowed a 'scope from work to do mine.

Thats what mine does, although mine goes straight to the connector where it then goes blue/black and thats on the ignition switch. According to the
haynes wiring diagram it should be blue/black all the way from the CDI to the ignition switch.
An update!
It would appear that i did have a bit of a spark all along,( daylight and weak spark) when i was turning it over i had a couple of LOUD bangs , only
once or twice in the whole day of fannying about with it.
I turned the lights off in the garage tonight and with a spare plug in the plug holder i could see a small blue spark at what seemed to be random
(long) intervals.
I was spinning it over for about 20 seconds and i got 2 sparks, it was spinning over nice and quick too. i stopped and spun it up again and no spark
I had a loud bang and a flame in the dark tonight too.
I have done as suggested in the haynes manual and checked
Pick up coil - within its tollerances
HT primary windings - Within its tollerances
Secondary windings - within its tollerances
Spark plug cap resistance - within its tollerances
Throttle position sensor - within its tollerances
I have checked continuity between Ign and kill switch
CDI and HT coils
CDI and Pick up coil
CDI and TPS
CDI and kill switch
I have also checked continuity between the CDI multiplug and where all the wires go to and all is 'A ok'
Im at a proper loss now

You need to at least try another ignitor box to see if that one is faulty...
It sounds like it might be
loud bang and a flame suggests to me timing is 180o out ,1 and 4 ht leads back to front possibly 2 and 3 as well

cylinder and plug No.1 at the cockpit end and No.4 at the front (clutch end).
Anyone willing to try my CDi in their car, maybe even my coils and rectifier too?
Dont have to be local as i would be wiling to post them. Local would be better though so i could see for myself.
If you want to travel to knutsford you can try it on mine (looks the same). First try swapping the LT leads on the 2 coils (did the trick for
me......)

is that the orange and grey wires that come from the ECU?
might just come up over the next couple of days if i cant get it sorted.
Even if the timing it well out surely i should still get a regular spark - just at the wrong time in relation to the piston stroke?

could be, I can't remember, it's easiest to just swap the non-commoned spades on the 2 coils (the commoned spades should be 12V)

Still cant find another black wire to earth on the CDI, do you only have one black wire going to earth Bob? (the thicker black one from the

I have swapped the 2 leads over that feed the coils and its made no difference.
I have connected new plugs to the leads and earthed them all on the cam cover bolts, and turned it over in the dark.
I have a blue spark at each plug. i'm not sure whether it is sparking all plugs at the same time or whether its firing in the right order - if
its in then its damn quick!
When i press the starter sometimes i get a spark and somtimes i dont.
If i am going to get a spark its within the first few (5) seconds of cranking then i dont get another one if i carry on for another 5-10 seconds.
It seems really odd now - anyone got any ideas?
Sounds like a dodgy connection on he clutch/neutral/sidestand switch or somewhere in that circuit..
I have earthed the sidestand blue and yellow wire to the chassis.
Soldered the black/yellow wire and the blue/yellow wire on the clutch switch together.
neutral light on the clocks is on and the box is physically in neutral.
I assume thats all correct?

I Went to see Smart51 to substitute the following onto his car. (thanks a lot )

Coils
Exup
Starter cut off relay
All were fine - i was hoping to find a duff component and hit the problem on the head...........no such luck.
I Made an earth plate with 4 holes in and put the plugs in so that i could be sure that all the plugs were earthed. Tested it to the battery -ve and
it was a good earth.
Then with the lights out i cranked it over and i got one set of sparks per cranking session from plugs 1 and 4, nothing on 2 and 3.
No matter how long i cranked it for i only ever got one spark each from no. 1 and 4.
What the hell could cause it to only spark once?
I have read some threads herethat say i should ground the blue/white wire from the
starter relay, all this does is make it turn over with ignition on????? is that correct?
it sounds like your clutch sidestand switches still, the ignition will fire once as the first coil gets a signal, but then it is restricted as the
switched wont allow it to fire/cut the engine..
Although I did think it also restricts the starter motor as well, maybe I am wrong...
