Hi all

Does anyione know if the Super Sport bikes (like R1, CBR 1000, ZX-10R, etc...) use alloy calipers, like this?

Yes... aluminium/magnesium alloy that is. Some are billet machined, some are cast.

They don't fit car disks though if that's what you are thinking of doing.

To add to Pete's comment - some have adpated the complete disc/caliper setup from the bigger bikes with a few hiccups along the way...

Yeap.. .that is it... I was thinking abot using just the calipers for the rear setup, as the Sierras' are a tiny bit heavy.

This 1L Super Sport calipers seem a bit big, but how about the 600cc?
What dificulties should I expect?

You will not have a handbrake is the first problem, the disks on bikes are only half the thickness of a car disk and are made of different material and you will have to fit them in a different way as they are flat with no bell or make some disks of your own, expensive unless you have everything to hand.

I had bike callipers on the back of my r1 mini

one set for brake and one set for handbrake. the brakes were not upto it and broke at the mounting bolts.

Zcars now use sierra rears

I have a pair of the rally spares alloy callipers for sale for £95 never fitted as they don't fit under 13" rims.

The problem is Lee that,

Bolts doesn´t like the forces you putted at it!

Also if you mount the brake calipers the way you did, you need to have something really really solid to mount on it!

The problem is that when you brake the caliper will bite!! and if it sees an possibility to turn a bit (read as to flex!)
then it can easy brake your bolts! evenb more because flex forses need 3 times the original calculated value.

Also after some brakeing the bolts tension will become lower (the bolts grows) sow it will become looser!

I think the problem you had is that you didn´t had much meat to be able to mount them to.

also maybe your bolts wheren´t of the high grade type. 8.8, 10.9.12.6

also you need to take in consideration the heat! if the bolts heats it will expand more then you alu caliper. and again it will become loser! also normal grade doesn´t like heat!
