My big cog's been done!!!
Bob C - 20/12/05 at 05:27 PM

Weyhey - my reverse-cum-handbrake cog which I've been trying to get teeth cut into since MAY - has been done! Superb job, 60 notes from a pukka gearbox building place (I won't say who 'cos it was done as a foreigner...)
I've looked at laser, water jet & had various friends & acquaintances look at it (best excuse - oh he died last year !!! ) but finally bit the bullet & got a proper engineering firm to cut it. £60 - I reckon xmas has come early!
happy christmas everybody!
Bob
PS I'll post a photo when I've got it all together.

By the term "foreigner" what exactly do you mean? I've heard chaps in a toolroom at a site I worked at earlier this year talking about a foreigner job...

Is it a job that is not put through the books, or charged at the proper rate?

Cheers
Andy

They're called "government jobs" around here, foreigner is one I've not heard before.

This is to mesh with a starter motor for electric reverse?

Cheers, Ted

Aye - nod/wink/backhander.
I'll post a pic in the next day or so - it's a 8 inch stainless disc that acts as a disc brake for a transmission handbrake and a big gear for electric reverse using a starter motor.
I've only ever heard "work other than that which I'm paid for" being called foreigners - maybe it's a local thing?
That's how my entire car's been built. . . . . .

How cool is that? A garden chair with electric reverse, and a transmission lock!!

Seriously though, it looks good!
