the moa 2 - 7/12/05 at 09:19 PM

Hi just doing some research on radiators and trying to decide which is best for my luego locost that will soon to be having an 98/99 R1 install.

Anyway found this link here from earlier threads which is a very usefully site

Any recommendations would be greatly received.

Everyone says polo or micra but i cant seem to find exactly which one people go for as there are so many variations especially on the polo front.

I got mine from Andy Bates at AB Performance.
He does the correct size Polo rad for £38 Plus p&p (tel. 01284 703101)
He also sells them on ebay regularly. Worth a search.

Andy.

So what size inlet outlet do the polo rads have or does it not matter ?

Can anyone advise what diameter the R1 plumbing is?

Does it just have 1 inlet and 1 outlet?

Does it have thermostat?

Why would anyone pay £100 for a rad from any other the manufactures when you can get these for this price?

The polo rad has one inlet and outlet which are 32mm IIRC (just use a 32mm -25mm reducer to step down to the bike engine plumbing.) There is also a v.small dia. outlet at top of rad (8mm dia.?) which can be utilised as an air bleed or return to header/expansion tank.
There is no filler cap or thermostat housing on rad, but there is a threaded boss to take a screw-in thermostatic switch for the cooling fan.
As you say, beats me why anyone would pay £100 for a rad when these can be had so cheaply.

The stock R1 rad has more inlets / outlets than the Polo / Golf rad, but its easily overcome. Have a look at my plumbing diagram to get an idea on how it all fits together
