Can anyone tell me what info the R1 clocks will give in terms of warnings ie.
Full beam
Indicators
etc etc
I need to know aht switches to buy from Stoneleigh ie with or without telltale lights.
What year of engine Col?
Oh balls didnt realise it differs!
I have not got my engine yet but its not going to be a NEW one, it will be a carbed jobbie.
Is that of any use?
I think there's possibly two carbed dashes but Im not sure. Ive got a 2003 FI dash at home I can take a pic of if you want, but thats definitely
different, it has a built in shift light for starters which is quite funky.
Whats the reason for chosing a carbed engine out of interest, the 2002/3 FI engines arent much dearer. I initially favoured the carbed engine for
simplicity but am now glad Ive got an FI engine for the flexibility it gives for tuning, and its not much more complicated to install.
loco-col-boy...
I've just had a look at 2001 clocks......
and its black...can't see bog all until its on!
check out an R1 wiring diagram...pretty sure all you'll be short of is a brake warning light
If its any help, I used blade clock which would probably have similar features and I didnt need to add anything, it had main beam, indicators, neutral, oil pressure and charge lights, it didnt have hazard or general "Lights on" but you can combine those into the switches you use usually. As Colin says, you'll probably need a brake fluid warning light though, although you might be able to use the oil warning light for this, then plumb in a proper oil pressure gauge instead as the oil lights are usually useless anyway.
good point Chris, Loco, the oil light and sensor on an R1 is a low level sensor, not a oil pressure light. just in case you weren't aware of this.
Ive not thought of that before but thinking about it there isnt any screw in oil pressure switch anywhere on the R1 engine, a bit odd! I guess because
they run so low pressure at hot idle there's no point as it would need to be triggered at such low pressure.
The oil level sensor is probably of more use that an oil pressure light though, so you might want to keep that and just add a warning light for the
brake fluid in that case.
I spoke to a customer of mine last night who reckoned he's sussed a place on the engine to get an oil pressure take off from....
I'll need to ask him precisely where.
Thanks chaps,
So Handbrake/fluid light
Hazard switch
and thats about it then.
Chris,
Wanted to go carbed because i have been in a carbed R1 and it was fantastic, not sure i need any more than that TBH!
The injection version would just add a bit more expense and compication to me.
The carbed R1 will be more than enough to meet my needs

Its probably through the middle of the big brass coloured bolt on the oil/water cooler next to the oil filter, thats where most people tap through. Im going to run a remote filter anyway because I want to run an air/oil cooler rad, and the oil filter gets in the way of the chassis rail if you use a normal sandwich plate so I have just tapped through the Mocal remote filter housing.
1 Neutral indicator light “N”
2 High beam indicator light
3 Turn signal indicator light
4 Fuel level warning light (I never managed to wire mine up)
5 Oil level warning light
6 Water Temp gauge with light
The tacho also serves as a diagnostics tool for exup valve, TPS and speed sensor
Only additional lights I have are oil pressure, hazards, brake fluid/ handbrake and illuminated fog. Only additional gauges I have are Oil Pressure
and Fuel.
By the way I tapped in through the oil cooler bolt. Pics of my install
here
Cheers

oil pressure take off is the m8 bolt in the head on the left hand side, ( we are making some adapters with aeroquip pipes to fit oil pressure lights
)
will take a pic in a min so its a bit more obvious where it is located
everything on the dash is there for sva apart from the handbrake / low fluid light
this is on a 99 4xv
best regards
marc
this is the one its the only wat that the dealer ships test the opil pressure through this hole
hope this helps
