Can you overcool?
Oliver Jetson - 10/3/05 at 08:53 PM

When I come to plumb in the R1 I want to use my current radiator. It's about 40mm by 40mm (maybe bigger). Is this too big?
If so is it possible to block off part of it to stop overcooling of the engine?

Cheers,
Oli

have you fitted a thermostat as this will open and close to control the temp
cheers dave

Dave,

Yeah I'll be using the bikes thermostat. I take it then overcooling won't be a problem?

Sorry but someoine has to say this so it may as well be me!

I think you will have severe problems with a radiator that is only 4 cm square!

Colin, Not got it running yet, only able to work on it on saturdays, getting there though.

Dave,
yeah I'm stupid! How's 400mm square for you instead?

Oli

if it is overcooling then just make a picture fram type surround to block off some of the airflow to the cooling vanes. This will have a similar effect to reducing the size of your radiator.
