Power commander for tuning Turbo BEC?
bren32 - 20/1/15 at 02:15 PM

Hi,

Does anyone have experience using a power commander 3 with the boost pressure sensor on a turbo bike engine? Does it work?

I have a Kawasaki ZX-12 that I've turboed which I run with a Megasquirt 3 running about 7 psi having fitted a decompression plate and larger injectors.

I'm considering going back to the Kawasaki ECU/loom and fitting the power commander to adjust fueling in boost as I'm finding the Megasquirt unreliable. I've just spent three months getting rid of a sync loss problem and now have a misfire at over 8500 RPM that I can't get to the bottom of.

Also has anyone used the Power commander ignition module to reduce spark advance in boost?

Any info appreciated.

Surely it will be cheaper/easier to chase the source of the sync problems then get a power commander. Unless you have one gathering dust in your garage. If the angle sensor etc is dodgey you may well have the same problems on the PC3.

ran that set up on my zx10 turbo and it was easy to map and control fuel,

simple and best value in my case

check out you tube for mk indy turbo you will see our dyno run

Do you have any more photos or info on your conversion/turbocharging? I have the same engine, so would be interested to see how you have done it....

Thanks for that Sean, what boost pressure did you run? Did you leave the spark advance as it was or was it retarded?

Sure, I'll take some pictures at the weekend and post them.

Also what did you do to the clutch?

Hi no left spark as it was and ran 9psi,

You could run a power commander hub if you want to advance or retard, but at 9psi I had no issue and ran 11.5 afr etc

When I was rebuilding the engine I noticed that the clutch basket was already cracked so went with the billet clutch basket from Muzzy's http://www.muzzys.com/1200-BCB/index.html. Not cheap but its a quality part, shipping from US was pretty fast and they refund part of the cost if you send your old basket back. Also installed 3 stronger clutch springs with 3 standard ones. Its been through a couple of race meetings and hasn't given any problems so far.
