Been a lot going on around here, so I finally managed to take the MK out for the first time for about two weeks.
Looks like the gearbox went, and took out a rod, so came home courtesy of the RAC The row and smoke screen was something to behold
There is no getting bored with a Kit Car in the family, is there?

As always Dave - say the word and I'll be up holding a cup of coffee for you!
Constant improvements

Get an 'E' it's a straight swap and better gearbox on them.
Bad timing for sure
Dare say there will be some sort of upgrading done while the new engine is installed?
Were you giving it some stick when it went?
Engine in fs section any good?
Well! Engine out, and I was wrong, not gearbox at all One dropped and three mangled valves on no 3 cylinder

The engine in the for sale section would have been perfect Kev, except I paid for another on ebay an hour before it was posted
I have an F2P engine coming Tuesday or Wednesday. On the bright side the "F" has the stronger gearbox of the "E" plus a modified
crank that makes take off much smoother, reduces vibration and has torque increase in the low and mid range.
May be back on the road next weekend.
Improvements and upgrades are in the process of being done, got to have something to do while I wait for the new engine
Thanks for the offer Olly, I have your mobile number on speed dial
And yes I was giving it large at the time, a missed gear when on the limiter, resulting in a 13800rpm over rev, probably didn't help
A Star Shifter is one of the planned upgrades, along with incontinence pants.
Quite glad to see it's user error tbh!!!!
Can't get it into my head how much stick a bike engine/box running a prop and two car tyres can last so well
Struggling to see how you can miss a gear with a sequential shift(apart from first to second through neutral obv),not having a dig at your driving
ability ,but how does it happen?
I clicked a false neutral at Spa and ended up with very similar damage on a 4xv R1 motor.
Glad to see the repairs moving along quickly

There is something else that may help. There is something on the market, unfortunately I forget what it's called. It's basically a stronger
spring for the selector drum, and it reduces false neutrals. It makes shifting on a bike really hard work, and actual neutral also gets difficult to
find. But it might be perfect for a BEC.
If I remember the brand name I'll post it up, but this might at least prompt a memory with someone else.
Edit: Oops, just realised it's the factorypro kit you linked to!!

It's the nature of the beast Kev It's what the bike boys call "floppy pedal" If the dogs don't engage fully you end up between gears, the noise as you force the gear in is a bit unnerving, to say the least. The lever moves for the full travel, but the gear doesn't engage The "C" models are renowned for it, from the "E" onwards the problem was "almost " eliminated. The favored fix is to fit a Z1000 gearbox. Although the Star Shifter is supposed to solve the problem

The bike boys riding a 9R feel they have done well if they managed a ride without missing a gear
This http://www.zx-9r.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=45614&highlight=gearbox is a common topic on zx-9r.net
Felt I should edit this to say that, in spite of this, I only briefly considered changing to CEC, but quickly came to my senses. The whole BEC experience is just too much to resist
