Hi guys,
Just a quickie, does anyone on here have a modified sump on a cbr900 engine?
Mine currently sites around 2inchs lower than the chassis of my mk indy, therefore it hits speed bump/the road/cats all the time.
My fiance's dad has a fisher fury with the same engine in, and the previous owner had sliced the flange part off the top of the sump and welded
an ally plate over the bottom, the oil pickup also had to be modified by having slots cut in it as it was sat flat on the bottom of the sump.
Has anyone else done/heard of this being done?
I'm tempted to do mine, but not as drastically as having it totally flat, maybe take an inch off it and maybe mount the sump plug on the side
rather than bottom.
once this is done, do i just fill up with oil to the usual level? or do I over fill it a bit?

I fitted a AB Performance billet sump and baffle on my old Stuart Taylor, sometimes Andy has some 2nd hand ones in stock at around £150 and vat

that looks nice and neat, what sort of depth is that compared to a standard one?
If I recall the sump is about 30mm less than the old one, but you also have the advantage of the sump plug on the side, also the baffle inside comes in handy for trackdays etc
I chopped the bottom off mine and relocated the bung to the side.
Had the shorten the pickup and the return, I also run an accusump, baffle plate and separate oil cooler to maintain volume and pressure.

only thing with the AB sump is cost. Seems to be very expensive and I can probably get my spare sump chopped and welded for peanuts
whats the accusump do? for around £250 i think i will pass on one of those, seems to run quite fine without it, unless I bash the sump plug again
(which i doubt the accusump would help then?)
whilst the sump is off getting chopped i would get some baffle plates added too to stop the oil slopping.
Mark, how much did you take off yours?
has anyone done it without buying extra parts? ie, chopping the sump, modifying the pick up and thats all?
It was a few years ago now, I cut it so that a flat plate would replace the angled bit, in hind site i should have shortened to the point that I did
not need to also cut down the oil return. I used a bit of 3mm tread plate to replace the chopped bit.
For the baffle plate just googled some images and cut my own from some 2mm Ali
This worked well for a few track days, then after hammering around the long bend at Lydden Hill the engine throw a rod out the side which I put down
to oil starvation, since adding the accusump £100 on eBay it's been 100%.
You just pull out the bung that the oil pressure sender sits in, drill and tap to 1/2" BSP and plumb in the accusump.
what does the accusump actually do?
just keep pressure on the oil?
I think I might have a modified stock sump in the store room, cut welded and I think it had an internal central shroud added, also had drain
relocated. Can look today for you, not as bling as our billet and not quite as effective but being a cut and shut and second hand - much cheaper. Let
