As my Haynes Roadster transmission tunnel will be wider than MK, so I decided to use bigger reverse gear (72teeth, 156mm OD).

And now - what starter motor should I use for it.
I know that VW starter motors are OK. Lots of you using VW Golf starter motor (gasoline or diesel). How efficient are they ?
I'm asking because I was thinking of VW Polo 1.2 starter motor - 0,9-1,1kW but smaller and easier to fit. (VW POLO STARTER MOTOR FROM 2001 ONWARDS | eBay)
Would it be enough with bigger reverse gear ?

I plan not to stick anything under the floor... because of speed bumps and polish roads So the size matters...

Diesel starter motors usually have more torque than petrol.

But is there need for such "powerful" starter motor ?
1.9TDI and gasoline 1.8 has about 2,0kW
1.2/1.4 gasoline has 0,9-1,1kW

Smaller starer motors are easier to fit and need smaller battery (less weight).

we were going to fit an electric reverse but changed our mind & fitted a rev box.
I have this starter motor from an X type jag which by design seems easy to fit.

Keep in mind bikes do to generate that much electrical juice, so don't go wild. Meaning, don't try to build the reverse to take you up hill too far, but rather for a simple turn around.
