New AB Performance Sabre
Andy B - 27/3/10 at 10:15 AM

Finally after a gruelling 48hr round the clock body fitting session the new car went for its first test at Brands on Friday.
Initial reports from driver were really encouraging - loads of front end grip, good firm steering with plenty of driver feedback and smooth power delivery.
We now have 2 more test days to dial the car right in and then run it in the remaining 10 rounds of the RGB series
It is almost 2 years since I embarked on the project and it was an incredible feeling seeing it lap Brands for the first time, still lots to do but it looks like we will have it on a stand at Stoneleigh, thought you guys and girls might like to be among the first to see it at its first run out, I will post some more shortly.
Regards
Andy

I like that, especially the front end/nose.

What engine are you using?

Dangle_kt - 27/3/10 at 10:34 AM

WELL DONE ANDY! Its great to see it finished after a number of chats we have had about it.

it looks great, but im sure it wil perform really well and be a good product for you.

Steve Hignett - 27/3/10 at 10:37 AM

Awesome, Awesom, Awesome...

Andy B - 27/3/10 at 10:38 AM

this one has been built as a class B car so is running a CBR1000rr 07 engine but we have had ZX12, ZX14 and a number of different 1000s in the back.
Drive is chain through quaife QDF7 lsd and electric reverse at gearbox output shaft. It weighed in at 575kg with driver in and the bodywork is 1st pull so way too heavy at the mo
This one still needs the front light pods, covers, air intakes ang graphics fitting which is happening this week

Andy

locoR1 - 27/3/10 at 10:48 AM

Andy, My first impressions it looks stunning
Next thought this is exactly the sort of car ive been waiting for as my next project! is it aimed purely for track use or road and track??

Dave..

Andy B - 27/3/10 at 10:59 AM

Hi Dave
initially the primary aim was to produce an out and out race / trackday weapon, however the car runs electric reverse, provision for cartridge cat, and has the lights in the appropriate positions so I guess at the back of my mind was the thought that at some point it would be put on the road, ground clearance is the RGB regulation 75mm so not super low (although it can run 35mm) ride will be quite hard as it is all rose jointed but on track the driver reported it was real smooth.
Best bet is to have a look at it in the flesh really and then you can see what makes it tick
regards
Andy

Jon Ison - 27/3/10 at 11:06 AM

Andy, superb looking car, what you cant see is the doubtless endless hours that went in under the bodywork to, wish you every success with the project, just wish I had the time to get behind the wheel and race again, would probably be on the phone to you if I had......

locoR1 - 27/3/10 at 11:21 AM

Thanks Andy, Looking forward to Stoneleigh even more now! will come and have a chat.

Andy B - 27/3/10 at 12:08 PM

looks nice, Looks like effort went into the bodywork instead of following the common designs that are around. What sort of weight will it get down to without a drive but ready to run?

Paradoxia0 - 27/3/10 at 12:28 PM

I am liking that a lot!! Very well done!

YQUSTA - 27/3/10 at 12:50 PM

That looks really nice Andy look forward to seeing it at Stoneleigh.

Well worth the 48hr stint imo.

Ian

blakep82 - 27/3/10 at 12:58 PM

oooh

Andy B - 27/3/10 at 01:07 PM

Weight of the finished car before fitting the lunatic behind the wheel was 490kg but we beefed the body as it was the first pull from the moulds, I think realistically we cah shed a minimum of 20kg more from the body.
Thanks for all the positive replies, it has definately been the hardest project we have attempted yet and at times I was ready to string myself up

DIY Si - 27/3/10 at 02:13 PM

Ohh, I like that!!

If/when I sell my Indy, I will now be torn between your Sabre and a Fury. It looks very cohesive as a design too, which many of the similar cars lack a little, IMO.

Also, will it fit two seats, or is it more a 1.5 seater?

Andy B - 27/3/10 at 02:43 PM

Hi
it is a 2 seater but it is tight, options will be RHD, LHD or central driving position.
regards
Andy

speedyxjs - 27/3/10 at 03:10 PM

Thats really nice

TimC - 28/3/10 at 10:12 AM

Looks awesome.

Sh1te. The sooner Class C becomes a 1000cc front engined class the better!

Your car looks great Andy.

I'm sure all of the effort you've put into it will prove worthwhile.

Looking forward to talking to you in a few days.

Chet

jeffw - 29/3/10 at 05:22 AM

It looks nice

It will be interesting to see how it performs against Tim's Sylva J15 and the other Middies.

motorcycle_mayhem - 29/3/10 at 05:57 AM

Well done Andy, having seen (a mere fraction) of the work thats gone into this thing... must be so rewarding to see it go so well.

I doubt if one of my GSXR's will ever be exploding within the engine the bay, simply due to the job/financial mess I'm still in (haven't tried BA or applying as a signalman yet though...).

carpmart - 29/3/10 at 08:14 AM

Andy

I really like that!

You've done the easy bit now, though I'm sure it doesn't seem that way, the hard bit is making it a commercial success!

I hope you get lots of take up from The RGB and Bikesports crowd!

Well done and good luck with the rest of the project!

MK9R - 29/3/10 at 09:34 AM

Looks great Andy, just don't get spending all you time on it in the paddock, the rest of use still need you!! LOL!!!! Well done, see you sunday!!!

Kriss - 29/3/10 at 12:34 PM

remeber you tellign me abotut his ont he phoen when i bought some yamaha parts and clutch conversion from you and was impressed then. congrats

esting and seeing it lappign much have been amazing!

any pictures of the chassis? do you know what it lapped in (Indy layout I assume) so low/sub 55's if it still needs work?

gixermark - 29/3/10 at 10:55 PM

did you paint it red so you couldn't see the stains of your blood on it Andy !!!

Guys - if you think it looks good with the body ON - you really want to see it under the skin.... makes ANY kit car and most race cars look very ordinairy indeed... a total credit to Andy. Like others have said, i just hope he gets the orders and makes it the success it deserves to be..

Major Stare - 30/3/10 at 07:07 AM

Andy, thats stunning. Put me down for one!

McLannahan - 30/3/10 at 07:14 PM

Looks superb Andy - Nice work!

Any chance of a rear shot?

Looking forward to seeing the more roady version with lights!

Really impressed with the look - it's a real looker!

GeorgeM - 30/3/10 at 09:22 PM

After seeing the chassis last year I thought it would be a shame to hide it under anything but transparent bodywork !
Does look good Andy, be good to see it finished.
Good luck

GeorgeM
