ZX12R Clucth Cable or Hydraulic
rf900rush - 7/2/09 at 09:31 PM

Hi

My previous bike engine was a RF900RR using a hydraulic clutch,
and used a VFR750 rear brake master as the clutch master.

The ZX12R uses a cable clutch.
I think i've got a rough idea what to do with the ZX12R cable system, but would like to see other BEC setups.

Anyone got some info/pictures of theirs.

Thanks in advance Martin

This is our setup - on the build diary it's around November/December 2003 - the setup is the same for our first blade engine as the ZX12R. I know it's a picture of the Accelerator but it's the same as the Clutch but the Clutch has a thicker wire.

i tried to reuse my cbr1000F hydraulic system but failed after a few goes. So i went for the cable route.

Hope i get the pictures to show up here, but if not look in my archive under ZX12R.

I rewelded the clutch arm on the gearbox 90 degrees out so i got a straight route to the pedal area, seemed silly having a cable running all over the engine bay when i could have a nice straight (ish) route. Then i cut up a renault 5 turbo clutch cable i had handy and as they are really heavy duty im hoping its going to last. Then i made a diy adjuster out of an m12 bolt and so the cable sat in it and let me dial any slack out of the cable. Then used some bolt on nipples on the pedal end. i also modded the pedal so it was like the brake one so it rested on the floor and didnt flop about.

Here goes:

diy clutch cable adjuster
diy clutch cable adjuster

cable mount

cable route

clutch pedal stop
clutch pedal stop

all seems to work but even with uprated clutch springs the pedal is very light (which i dont like).

Thanks for the info.

I was going to reweld the clutch lever arm 90deg, but I am reluctant unless I can get a spare.

I know of topic, but....

Just had a look at your photo archive and found a CSK Range Rover picture.
Always wanted to get one, but need petrol to drop to 10p/litre.

My '75 range rover did 10mpg with a 350ci chevy up front.

The arm is only £15 so if you get it wrong its not £££.

Yep its a CSK, with a stroked 3.9 fitted (4.6) but is in need of some touching up now as the bonnet and boot have rotted to much to try and repair it. Luckily for me i only do 15 miles a day so the fact its only managing 14 mpg at the moment isnt too bad. It does come in handy for moving things about too and i want to get or build a trailer so i can track the kit car this year.

If you need any more info on my cable then ask here or U2U me so i can sort it out for you.
