Wee bit more progress
zilspeed - 4/1/09 at 10:10 PM

Seeing as I'm looking to get this engine fired up soon, went and picked up a fuel pump from Mr. Westgarage yesterday.
Having got that home, I figured that I would want to crank the engine and have oil pressure before givng the engine sparks or fuel.

So, need to fill the engine with new oil, because I know for a fact that the sump is empty. Hang on though, that sump is getting changed for a shorter GPZ900R sump, so might as well do that first. Did it, also managed to hook up the oil cooler lines too.
That job done, I know that I can now put the oil in, just need an oil light now. That's in the bike clocks, time to break out the wiring diagram to make sure I have identified the right wire. While I was at it, I figured I might as well go the whole hog and identify all the wires to the bike clocks so they can be wired in correctly.
Did that too.

So, tomorrow I need to get some engine oil, some fuel hose, some hose clips a handfull of electrical connectors and some heat shrink.

I think I will be good to go at that point.

Once it fires, it will be time for the gearchange mechanism. Mr McGill's rod end emporium will be the place for the necessary joints.

A good day, all in.

Hi John,
I chopped a spare zx10 sump and welded it up this afternoon.
Just need to weld a bush on the side for the oil drain plug.
Certainly don't want the bottom of the sump to get wiped off (like Stuart Brown's OMS ZZR1100 at East Fortune).

I figured that swapping for a GPZ900 one was way easier for me.

I really hope you are able to get the time to get the work done on the Royale, because much as it's always great to have you marshalling, it has to be better to be driving.

Andy, that's pretty much it.
I'm getting as much done now while the mood is on me.
Once the engine runs, it will be drivetrain time at which point it all becomes quite interesting potentially.

How's the beemer coming along.

Would you like a video crew to film the experience. I have a full battery and an empty 8gig card choking for some hot action.

Its all ground to a bit of a halt at the moment need to get my arrr- backend into gear.

need the ignition rewired, harnesses fitted and paint to finish before final set up,

Im crap with wires and fed up of rubbing down. need a good kick to get me going.

If its ready for the start of the season ive promised Douglas a drive as i cant compete with my lowly grade 'B' license, thats assuming it will get round the bottom corner onto the start line

All the best

Andy

Why can't you compete with your grade B licence ?
Is it a car, driver or event issue ?

Its a car issue

Due to it being modified to the extent that it is , it will be under sports libre and as such with a grade B you can only drive up to a 2000cc car mine 2500cc and may even be 3000 or 3200 if i can get enough £££

heho should have checked before i modded it

So you're in Sports Libre, but a 500bhp Mitsubishi is a road car ?
That's a joke.

What you need is some events in a road car to get some signatures on your licence.

<---

P.S. Looking for a nice waterjet gearchange paddle. How much ?

Aye does seem a bit strange but thems the rules.
If Id left the sloppy steering, spongy suspension and crap brakes on the original body then Id be ok in road going or even modified road and would probably have seen even more of the gravel traps than i did with the FVL which had a much higher power to weight ratio

Im looking at some cheap kit options to get some signitures or the wifes old Puma still shut up in the garage

Bet she will be pleased

Anyway if the Beemers ready for Douglas it will be nice to see it driven properly before i take it off road
