Programmes here for all kinds of stuff. They are older versions of the stuff they sell just to get your interest. I use the later version of Photoplus and it's good for a reasonable price. Click for free image editor

If you have already sussed out how to do it - I was advised by my lecturer that 90Kb is a good bench mark figure to work on for internet images. However with the increase in Broadbeans since then I guess it's now pretty irrelivant. However, you need to optimise your images (this reduces the number of colours used) it makes the upload and download much quicker with very little loss in image quality. Also very small images are best in .gif other's maybe .jpg - it's a trial and error thing. BTW Most monitors display in 72dpi so if you have resolutions of 200dpi or more the actual size will increase pro rata.

I hope this helps and if you wish to use free downloads for this, remember that there is no such thing as a 'free' meal - not for long anyway!

Hope this helps!

I'll second that...

Also image optimisation refers not just to reducing colors but increasing lossy compression. This leads to compression 'artefacts' small patches of the same colour and loss of detail in some image areas. You'll notice this if you over optimise. Irfanview is spot on for a variety of image related tasks it open just about all image formats too.

Cheers
