Bolted Driveshafts and rear uprights

Has anyone fitted bolted driveshafts with their Avon rear uprights? I heard a rumour that they dont fit?

Cheers, James

Thats right they don't but I would have thought Tiger would have sorted it by now. It's quite an easy mod to do if a grinder and a welder.

Do you know what the mod is? I need to change mine over from push in to bolt on shafts for rear discs?

It's possible to fit disc's to push in driveshafts, you just need a set of adaptor plates, this is also a much lighter way of getting rear discs.

This is a Caterham, sorry, but it shows it is possible Rescued attachment rollbarbracket_2.jpg

i must be lucky, i managaed to fit bolt in shafts/discs with no mods to the uprights at all ( rear uprights tiger items supplied end of 2004) pic from my archive-http://www.locostbuilders.co.uk/photos.php?action=showphoto&photo=App0006a.jpg

I swapped from drums/push-in shafts to lsd/discs and bolt-on shafts. Mine's an early chassis and you're quite right, the disc hub carriers have a different mounting hole spacing to the drum type and hence don't line up properly with the holes in the rear uprights. I elongated the holes in the hub carrier with a round file to match.
Also, if the shafts are from a Sierra with ABS, the sensor teeth will have to be machined off to enable the stub shaft to pass through the upright (you may also have to remove a little material from the lip of the welded ring of the upright to allow the stub shaft to sit home fully.)
It may be easier to fit adaptor plates as previously mentioned, to your existing drum set-up to convert to discs.
I think Chester Sportscars should be able to help and I believe MNR also sell an adaptor kit.

Andy.

Yep. Not sure what age my uprights are. Guess I will just have to get some driveshafts and have a play

Thanks for the replies.
