has anyone finished an avon?
Hi, after a long break from my Avon build i am trying to return to it with vast ammounts of enthusiasm, im finding it hard to muster said
enthusiasm.
Have any of you completed a build on an Avon? (apart from which kit? who got the cream of the parts bins at Tiger rather that the rusty water i got
from them!!).
Can anyone tell me that they have finished an Avon and are realy proud of the achievement in the face of adversity?
Can anyone give me a link to a site with pics of finished Avons?
Please help or my kit will gather more Dust!
p.s. anyone got any cortina uprights for sale???
Dave.

Looking forward to seeing the results - got any photos yet ?
I'm going for black bodywork as well - however this will eventually (far off in the future) be sprayed 'cadbury's purple...

no pics on the computer yet but some on a mates camera, how far have you got on your build? have you had any trouble with the steering column mount? i
have had to cut mine off as it is out of line with the top mount!

Not got very far at the moment - my garage is currently full of my brothers crap so I can't get in there to do anything.
the steering column mount is slightly off line, however it only has a plastic bush pushed into it so it MAY be acceptable when I come to try it for
real.... if not I will just have to 'adjust' it as neccessary....
My left hand headlamp mount isn't quite right either - not a lot I can do about that though with all the welding around it...
recently completed the pedals, didn't bother with the 'cut and shut' idea.... I just cut them off below the hinge and used 2 lengths
of 25mm square steel.
I binned the tiger accelerator pedal as well - too flimsy... but I have done a decent job of some drastic alterations to the original sierra
pedal...
Cheers

Dave, I also had to cut mine off, be mainly due to the Starter motor being on the offside of the Vx engine. I eventually fitted a plate from Robin
Hood that hold the full standard Sierra bush (three pieces), and I now hope to fit a Sierra adjustable column (going to scrappers tomorrow).
I'm fitting body work on Sunday.

Northy, Good luck with the bodywork.
If you haven't done so already trim back the plates that hold the roll bar on. There is no nead for hem to be so long
I found that a dremel thingy was invaluable to take of the excess Grp under the side rolls.
This is the worst part of the build!!!!

straightened and welded my pedals, painted the brake bias valve a shiny red colour too!! Recieved a brake pipe flaring tool today so thats my goal for
sunday, all the brake pipes run (i know its not much of a goal but it is sunday afterall!
Cheers guys.

Northy.....looking good!!!
The next problem I had was the lack of GRP nder the chasiss which ment the rivets were close to the edge.
Also trimming of the flash lines proved a pain, as if you sand them off flush this will probably mean going through the gelcoat layer and look bloody
awful.
Trying to sort out wind deflector/aeroscreen next.
Waiting for Cabon dash (Not from Tiger but made up locally). Carbon stone guards too.

Yeah, not much on mine to fix it in a few places
I don't want to upset you, but my flash lines are nearly non existant! And in some places have been removed totally!
Now, carbon dash and stoneguards sound interesting, any more info on those available?
Cheers

looks good Tractorboy, are the seats Tiger items?
Northys build is also looking good!
I got my brake pipes in and riveted down, just trying to find a seal kit for my master cyclinder now, my local motor factors are about as much help as
Tiger!

Northy,
I'm getting a local composite panel peeps to make a staight dash with a 19mm radius roll. I figure I can shape this to suite. I'm a;so
getting some carbon fibre for me to shape for the stone guards. He says it will be about £15 - 20. Should be any day now, bearing in mind that nothing
happens quickly down here, Will let you know how it turns out.

Please do! Is the carbon for the stoneguards the thin stuf that flexs? Or the sticky back stuff?
