MK Ali tank, how to make hole for breather?
I've got the MK ali tank.
I want to fit the inline breather to the extra blanked off tube.
Just wanted some ideas for making the hole at the bottom of the tube.
Obviously the obvious answer is drill it but I don't want the swarf in the tank as there's a small amount of fuel in there and I
don't want to take the tank out!
Any ideas like puncturing it? Or has everyone drilled?
Cheers,
James

I drilled my MK tank breather. the swarf tends to wind itself up the drill in a single spiral so nothing much goes in the tank.

or put a £1 filter in the first bit of flexi off the tank on the feed side, as you'll never get everything out.
i thought mine was entirely clean, but after 1500 miles, the filter had all sorts of swarf and crap in it. think it must have stuck round the baffle,
even though it was blown, and vacuumed out.
change the filter every 1000 miles, for the first 3 if it bothers you that much. i'd rather pay £3 than take the tank out at an advanced
stage

what I did was drill the aero filler cap, about 8 little holes under the key flap, worked for me? as the car used to stall after 50 miles on the
motorway :-) I was the same didnt want all that cr4p in the tank

Took the tank out, drilled the hole and flushed it out afterwards with fuel so gave in and did it properly!

it must have been the washing out with fuel step i missed then.
fwiw, i got round to tapping the crap out of the old filter the other day. was surprised how much there was, but there's no visible debris in the
carb float bowl, so it must have worked. the red gasket didn't quite stick to the underside of the sender though, it would appear.
there was a fly in it too. pump fuel eh?
