Indyblade cooling system
Picked up a header tank today from scrapyard off Rover 400 as prescribed by MK, though I think I may have got the "wrong" early model with
different mountings.
Anyway, while cleaning it out tonight, thought of a couple of things if you can help please?
- Got my radiator from MK,bike engine specific, this has no conventional sprung pressure release radiatior cap, neither does the header tank I got
today, just a screw top. So where if anywhere does the pressure release too in the event of it rising too high?
- Does anyone have any archive pictures of their hoze routing. I am OK with the theory having seen the diagram Snoopy posted some time ago, just
need some inspiration to physically run the pipes? Also trying to avoid Hicost Samco stuff!
- Does MK supply a solid lower pipe with the Tee piece fixed to it to run along a chassis rail?
Cheers
Colin

IIRC the Rover header we used had a pressure release. Also the Micra radiator we used also had a Radiator Cap pressure release. It is pressured anyway
but - be careful by the sounds of that

Colin,
Is it the flatter style that I have?
Pic in my archive.
I haven't checked the header for a pressure valve! now I'm worried!

Yes, looks the same. From what I saw in the scrapyard the early tank has level sidways monts and a big long leg, see the pic below.
The later tank is the same shape bot the mounts are non level, vertical and it doesnt have the long leg.
I guess I will mount it on a small bracket and cut the the horrible long leg off?
From your pic, you have the same rad as me, so perhaps we should be worried?
Is the bendy looking pipe (convoluted?) from the top of the rad an of the shelf item or cut to length of a roll so to speak?

the pressure valve releases through the cap as in the sierra. when it blows, it blows all over, not down a pipe as such, like with an expansion tank.
i don't know what pressure cap it is though
still, i'm happy with mine and it does'nt run hot particularly, even revving stationary.

I was looking at mine tonight aswell, looks like as Indykid says the cap has a pressure release valve in it.
I have actually looked at buying an expansion tank from MNR so I am ringing Mark tomorrow to have a chat about it, will let you know what he says.
Colin, the convoluted tube is actually two bits of the stuff you buy in Halfords although it was hard to get as the usually don't sell the
convoluted tube in the blade dia (25mm I think) so when I saw it I snapped it up.
I intend to change all the hoses for silicon hoses eventually but didn't want to spend loads until I knew exactly where they were routing. MK
will supply you the bottom tube with the t-piece in it but I just used a 1 metre length of cooling hose and got a t-piece from an aquarium shop that
fitted nicely.
HTH,
Rich.

I f it does great, I am perhaps behind the times looking for a springy cap
Will be interested in what Mr Norden has to say, are you looking for something prettyer?
I see, they are the emergency repair/ universal pipes are they? you can see where the join the rad a "finished" end that made me
wonder.
Thanks
Colin

its got an 18mm outlet to suit a pinto water pump and an 8mm for the air bleed from the top of an MK mk2 escort (custom added penny) radiator.
i looked round the scrappy and sort of stumbled across it. it was either that or a golf/polo one but they seemed a bit bulky

Cheers Tom
So how does this help a build with a Fireblade engine ,Mr MK?
Is it the shape, capacity or what?
Am I starting to sound obcessed?
Sorry
