Indy Steering Column

Evening All,
Sorry about the previous attempt at posting this query.
I've just fitted my steering rack and extended steering shaft. There is now a 30mm gap between the Sierra column mounting flange ( the one with the 2 holes ) and the chassis mounting. Is this "normal " and do I therefore have to make up 30mm spacers. If i do what have other people used since I don't have access to machining facilities. Hope someone can help.

Regards

David

have you got an alloy bracket round the outer column that bolts on to the chassis?that is split with a pinch bolt to allow for adjustment

I beleve the triangle shape shaft slides in and out of the steering column to ajust the distance you are writing about.

the triangular shaft has an adjustable slider on it. You may have to make up some spacers for the chassis bulkhead fixing as the alloy bracket has very large holes in it for plastic bushes on the Sierra. We made some top hat stylé bushes which fit into the alloy holes with a 4mm flange and a 12mm hole thro'

Evening All,

Steering column now fitted.Regarding bushing the large holes in the alloy bracket, Charlie at MK gave me a brilliant solution- the metal bushes used in the MK suspension are a perfect fit-just need cutting to length.

So to fix Vintagebuilder;s problem it is a case of adjusting the alloy pinch bolted piece then?

I wasn't sure ifyou're meant to compress the column against the spring? What is the point of the spring if not?

Cheers,

James

James,

When I fitted my extended steering shaft, the position of the steering column was determined by the little pin in the top coupling of the steering shaft. When I slackened of the pinch bolt and moved the flange down to the mounting bracket I didn't have to compress the spring.
Hope this helps.

David
