Fitting MK bonnet bulge / scoop

How have you guys attached your MK bonnet bulge to your bonnet.

Any pics?

The MK bulge has no lips. Have you glassed some up or have you used another method.

Don't fancy losing it at 130mph.

Cheers

Jim

My bonnet bulge had metal tabs inside, drilled holes through these, then lined up with bonnet and marked and drilled holes.
I secured the bulge with bolts and Ny-lock nuts and LOTS of washers to spread the load.
I then took it to a mate of mine who filled the gap with a flexible sealant then sprayed the whole thing. (my bonnet is black and the bulge wasn't)
I have tested it at 95mph so far and it hasn't hit me in the face yet!!

Cheers

Rick

i used a glue that they glue panels on to trucks, once set alloy would rip before the glue does ,iv used this for all my panels and used it to glue my first mk scoop on i just ran it around the lip and placed it on the bonnet and then ran a little around the seam .the glue is made by 3m and it comes in 2 tubes but you have to use a gun to squash the stuff out.its £20 a go and the body shop where i brought it from lent me the gun .wil find out the proper name if you want to get some

Sounds like a plan but without the gun it probably will be a pain to apply.

Also as the scoop will be going on a painted bonnet do you think it'll just rip the paint off?

Sikoflex and a normal caulking gun.
Tigerseal is another good brand.
Basically any P.U. body sealant, but not silicone obviously.
Most of these adhesives can be bought for around £5-£7 per tube.

Once I've finished a project why do I start another?

Hey,

Did you get anywhere with this in the end Jim?

I'm hoping that I can get one to fit onto a VortX bonnet. Does anyone have measurements for this bulge?

I notice that with the bulge, Indy owners can fit an R1 and the airbox under without any problems. Is this correct?

Any pics would be useful.

Thanks,

Chris.

Hi Chris,

Yes all fitted. Ended up glassing some strips of ply on the inner edges of the scoop and then attaching by screwing it on from underneath.

It clears the airbox (just) but be aware that it slopes at the back so you need to position it carefully.

Have decided not to bother painting it for the meantime as it looked better that I thought iit would

Glad to report that it remained attached for two track days and two visits to France including some speeds exceeding 130mph.

Pics in my photo archive

Cheers

Jim
